Today's program was Club Assembly. Jack discussed some of the items that were covered at the last board meeting:
Open Board Positions - The position of President-Elect Nominee is still open. We need to get a volunteer for this asap so that they can attend President-Elect training.
Treasurer position transition - Bob & Steve have transitioned the Operating budget and are now working on the Charitable Fund account.
The Winter Farmers Market is in full swing and we are in need of volunteers to sign up to work the various dates through the December time frame.
International service projects of Peru, Guatemala & Polio Immunization are available for those members wishing to get involved on an International level.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove recently gifted approximately 50 blood pressure monitoring kits to McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH). Jack Giel, President of the Rotary Club, presented the kits to Community Health staffers Carol Waggoner, RN and Susan Borucki. The kits, manufactured by Synteligent Inc. are named “iLowerBP” and designed for home use. Contents include a wristband-style BP monitor, a training video and the book “High Blood Pressure for Dummies”.
"McHenry County Department of Health is committed to supporting residents in their quest to achieve good health", said Pam Morzos, Director of Nursing for MCDH. “This generous gift from The Rotary Club of Cary Grove helps with that mission by offering folks a tool for monitoring their blood pressure at home.”
Carol Waggoner, who manages Heart Age education for The Department, is appreciative of this generous donation which will be used in conjunction with the current MCDH Heart Health program. MCDH conducts Heart Age Screening education periodically at events throughout the County. Heart Age screening and education is offered by MCDH staff members and Medical Reserve Corps (MRV) volunteers.

The November evening social will be held next Thursday, November 17th at the Rotary Club of Lake Zurich's Craft Beer and Soulful Tunes Fall Festival. Cost for the event is $40 per person.
The club discussed participating in the Shop with a Cop program, which is sponsored by the McHenry County Sheriff's Department. Cost of the program is $150 per child. At today's meeting, it was suggested that individual members that would like to participate should contact Jack as to the level of their commitment. The club is planning a matching program, similar to what we did last year.
On Saturday, November 19th from 6:00 PM to Midnight, the McHenry County Police Charities, will be hosting their 10th Annual Networking Fundraiser at the VFW on Route 120 in McHenry. There will be Raffles, Live and Silent Auction Items, Food Buffet, Music, etc. There is a $5 Cover Charge and is open to the Public. a flyer for this event is available at http://www.mc3online.com/PDF/2016_flyer_R3.pdf.
The club will again be participating in Home of the Sparrow's Holiday Gift Card program. Club members wishing to help out with the worthwhile program should consider purchasing gift cards from department stores such as Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, ect. Cards from local grocery stores are also encouraged. Please bring your cards to the meeting in the next couple of weeks and Jack or Sue will see that they get delivered for you.
The lawyer was cross-examining a witness. "Isn’t it true, Sir “he bellowed, “that you were given $500.00 to throw this case?” The witness did not answer. Instead, he just stared out the window as though he hadn’t heard the question. The attorney repeated himself, again getting the same reaction, no response.
Finally, the judge spoke to the witness, “Please answer the question.” “Oh,” said the startled witness, “I thought he was talking to you.”
This morning's members in attendance had the pleasure of listening to Carol Wells, District 6440 End Polio Now Chair. Carol presented a brief history and update on the End Polio Now Campaign. She reviewed the history of polio, highlighting Rotary International's partnering with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 1988. This newly formed partnership committed to eradicate Polio worldwide. There are still a few remote areas in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan experiencing outbreaks. Political unrest and conflict in these areas make it difficult to deliver the much needed vaccine.
Our club's support toward this effort has continued to be generous. Carol stressed that "Polio Eradication will be Rotary's Legacy to the World". Thanks to all who continue to support the campaign--no matter how small. We are very, very close to our goal.

Alan Anderson reported that District 6440 is looking for families that would be willing to host an Exchange Student for the coming year. The Rotary Youth Exchange program provides thousands of young students with the opportunity to meet people from other countries and to experience new cultures, planting the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding. If you are interested in being part of this program in the future, contact Alan.
One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

While the picturesque Valley of 1,000 Hills outside Durban, South Africa, offers stunning scenery to visitors, job prospects for the Zulu people who live on tribal land there are bleak. Three years ago, the nearby Rotary Club of Hillcrest addressed the unemployment rate by partnering with Embocraft, a skills training group serving the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Rotary clubs in District 7020 (Caribbean) and the Disaster Network of Assistance Rotarian Action Group are collecting donations to replace the roofs of 1,000 homes in Haiti and the Bahamas after Hurricane Matthew devastated the Caribbean on 4 October. The funds will also provide 1,000 water filtration systems to combat the cholera outbreak.

While the fight to eradicate polio suffered a blow this year when the virus re-emerged in Nigeria, Rotary leaders and top health experts focused Monday on the big picture: the global presence of the paralyzing disease has never been smaller.
The headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, served as the site of Rotary’s fourth annual World Polio Day event.
