The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove held it's annual installation picnic at Lake Julian. A special thank you to both Dave and Andi Miller for again hosting the event. Steve Cherveny was the out-going president having served in that position the past year. In-coming officers for the 2016-2017 year are Jack Giel (President), Pat Finlon (President-Elect), Sue Maifield (Secretary) and Steve Cherveny (Treasurer). A special recognition was given to the out-going Treasurer, Bob Blumberg, for his many years of service to the Rotary Club.
What a great venue and wonderful food prepared and served by Bret Coleman,"Coleman's in the Park". In addition to Rotarian spouses and their families at the Installation picnic, additional guests included Assistant District Governor, Jim Wales and his family and recipients of this year's scholarship awards.
A warm-felt thank you to Steve for his year of service to the club, and congratulations to Jack and his new slate of officers for the coming year.
Our District Governor's Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 13 this year. The time and place is yet to be determined, but for now, all board members and committee members should reserved this date. DG Rick Rivkin will meet with the entire membership during our weekly meeting on Thursday, July 14. Please plan on attending this meeting to learn more about Rick's plan for the Rotary year.
In support of local farmers and vendors, The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove will be hosting a Farmers' Market on Sundays during the summer months beginning in June and running through September. The event will be held between the hours of 9:00 am - 1:00 PM in the Metra Parking lot, which is located in downtown Cary. The first Market will be held on June 5th.
The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove’s membership is a diverse group of individuals that work together to improve the communities of Cary and Fox River Grove. If you are interested in learning more, or in getting involved, come as our guest to one of our morning meetings. We meet on Thursdays beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Cary Park District located at 255 Briargate Road, Cary Illinois. Visitors are always welcome.

One of President Steve's goals this year is to have at least one member join a Rotary Action Group or Rotary Fellowship Group. As stated on RI's website, a Rotarian Action Group is an autonomous group of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who are experts in a particular field, such as micro-credit or water and sanitation. More information about these groups and their purpose can be found on RI's website.
Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians, family members, program participants and alumni who share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Again, more detailed information is available at this link to RI's website.

When Brad Rubini was reading a bedtime story to his seven-year-old daughter, Claire, she asked him why he was reading the words wrong.
“I’m dyslexic, so I thought I was reading the words right,” recalls Rubini, a past president of the Rotary Club of Toledo, Ohio.

In the seven days from 7 through 13 March, I took precisely 84,250 steps. This amounted to 39.85 miles. I also climbed 288 floors and burned 22,055 calories.
I’m fairly certain that you, gentle readers, could not care less about those statistics. Unless, of course, you’re one of the millions of gentle readers who have joined America’s fitness self-surveillance movement by strapping a tracking device to your wrist. In which case, you are probably pretty darned impressed by my stats.

The way Cynthia Salim sees it, the fashion industry doesn't have much to offer a young, socially conscious woman like her when it comes to work clothes.
"The fashion industry often does 'sexy' or 'fun' or 'hip,' and things that encourage frequent purchases," the 29-year-old says. "It's very rare that the design community will design something that will make a young woman look credible and influential as well as timeless."

Susan Davis has devoted the past three decades to using social entrepreneurship and microfinance to address extreme poverty, particularly in Bangladesh. A Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship in the early 1980s allowed her to study international relations at the University of Oxford.
