Our guest speakers today were Amanda Breitenstein of Northern Illinois Food Bank and Lee Jennings of Nunda Garden.  Amanda and Lee spoke about an exciting new program that will be starting this spring at The Nunda Garden site located next to the Nunda Township offices.

The one-acre site located on Bay Road will be a joint effort between Nunda Township, Northern Illinois Food Bank, McHenry County Master Gardeners and local residents. This Community Garden will be used by Master Gardeners and local youth groups as a teaching tool and will help feed local families in need of nutritional foods.  In addition to providing an educational experience, the site will function as an outdoor classroom for students looking for a place to fulfill service hours.  The produce from the garden will be donated to local Northern Illinois Food Bank partners, three of which are located within five miles of the site.

Amanda and Lee are hoping to spread the word about the new venture and to recruit volunteers who are interested in helping with this project.  To learn more about what you can do, contact Amanda by sending an email to abreitenstein@northernilfoodbank.org.
