District Governor Mike Yesner Visit

Today's speaker was District Governor, Mike Yesner. Mike visited with members of the board last night to review club activities. Mike also discussed the ways in which the district can assist the club. Part of every DG's obligation is to commit to meeting with each rotary club within the district. While this task is a daunting one, it can be beneficial for both the DG and the clubs.
At last night's meeting, President Sue and board members that were present gave an overview of the Avenues of Service and the general condition of the club. Highlights included the many club service events that have taken place and are planned for the remainder of the year. Our activities within the community were discussed as was our vocational service and scholarship endeavors.
DG Mike emphasized the need to engage new members as soon as they join. Rotary International's numbers show that during the past three years there has been a growth in membership of 10%. However, during this same period total membership has decreased by 12%. There are several logical explanations for this, but at the forefront is the realization that newer, younger members want to be active in the community. And the use of technology and media is an avenue that attracts them more than anything.

Mike has asked that every club skip its meeting during District Assembly week (November 10th) and again during the week of District Conference (April 19th). Instead, members are encouraged to attend both of these training opportunities.
