Rotary club of Carol Stream Holiday Happenings
Service above self is an important avenue to the Rotary Club of Carol Stream.  The Club works very hard every year during the months of December and January.  This season was no different.
We kicked off the holiday with the District 6440 /Salvation Army Bell ringing at the Woodfield shopping mall.  It was a chilly night but we were happy to receive donations from willing, gracious people for the holidays.
Next, the Club joined our local Social Services group from the Carol Stream Police Department at a local church to sort and pack food for those in need at the holiday season.  We joined forces with a local High School men's group that helped us lift many bags of canned goods in paper sacks into grocery carts for pickup.
The Club collected tape, gift bags, and wrapping paper and donated it to the "Christmas Store" at the Outreach Community Center to help wrap holiday gifts.  The gifts were donations from local churches, individuals, schools, and corporations/businesses.  388 volunteers helped 333 families (932 children) shop for holiday gifts for 75% of the cost of the goods.  The volunteers provided shopping guidance, wrapping services, entertained children while there parents "shopped", babysat infants and toddlers, and collected money in exchange for name tags.
And in mid January, the Club helped Kid Against Hunger pack food for hungry children in USA and South American countries like Nicaragua.  The packaging line mixes soy protein powder with a vitamin supplement, dried vegetables for flavoring, and rice for a nutritious meal that can feed 6 people for a whole day!  The organization is a National organization that has been serving the people of the world for many years.
While we cannot feed everyone who is hungry, we hope that by these projects we could put a few smiles on the faces of a few people during the holiday season.
