Last week our club passed the Operations and Foundation Budgets for the coming Rotary year, and President-Elect Juliet gave us her goals for her year. She said she will be listening to our members for their ideas and suggestions and will be asking us, "How can I help?" (a central theme notably exemplified by Dr. Max Goodwin in the hospital drama New Amsterdam). Her full board of officers was announced, with the addition of Hetal as the President Nominee now added. We look forward to your year Juliet!
Agnieszka Moroni, founder of TOTS THERAPEUTIC CHILD CARE CENTER, came to our meeting to thank our club for another community grant to help their mission as a first-of-its-kind daycare for kids with special needs in Chicago's northwest suburb. She said that both our club and individual members have been very supportive of their agency.
The Rotary Clubs of Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights and North Chicago worked with other volunteers to build raised beds and compost bins and fill the areas with mulch and soil for science teacher Nicole Welner at Neal Math and Science Academy in North Chicago to enhance her students' horticulture experiences. Great collaborative effort supported financially by the three clubs and a Rotary District 6440 grant. This is an example of Rotarians devoted to hands-on environmental projects to help our communities. Thanks so much to hard-working Jason (who went the extra mile to transport lumber in his truck), Rob, the master builder of the raised beds, honorary member Senator Adriane Johnson who took time out of her busy schedule to participate, and Jeff and Martha Weiss.
The Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove is seeking nominations for persons in the community for the 2024 Bill
Reid Award. There are many unsung heroes in our community who could and should be recognized and honored for their long-term commitment to Buffalo Grove. The late Bill Reid, long time Village Trustee known to many as “Mr. Buffalo Grove”, was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove.
We need your help identifying and nominating those very special and valuable long-term community contributors, whose efforts have resulted in the enhancement, betterment, and improved spirit of the Buffalo Grove community. If you know of such an individual whose outstanding volunteer efforts have been measurably involved in continuous community service endeavors of a substantial nature and duration, let us know by completing and returning a nomination form.
Nominations must be received by June 16th, 2025.
The award recognition will include a public ceremony with presentation of recognition plaque, a $250 contribution to the charity of the award recipient’s choice in the recipient’s name, and a $250 contribution in recipient’s name to The Rotary Foundation. The recipient’s name will also be inscribed on the permanent award recognition plaque located in the Buffalo Grove Village Hall.
The presentation of the award will occur at an upcoming summer/fall Rotary lunch/event or community event. Help us by nominating a candidate for the annual Bill Reid Community Service Award today!
Last year the BG Days Parade participants wore florescent Rotary shirts that vividly identified us as Rotarians. Hetal is taking orders for these shirts and you can pay her for them after they arrive. The cost is $20 plus tax and delivery fee. Tell Hetal the size you would like at hetal1029@yahoo.com
Please save the date, Tuesday, July 1st, for our installation dinner for the new officers for the coming Rotary year and a celebration of our accomplishments this year. Cocktails will start at 5:30 pm and dinner will be served at 6:00 pm at The Grove Country Club in Long Grove. There is no charge for our club members or members of District 6440 Leadership Team, and the club member will be billed $35 for a guest. Bill Donahue is arranging for golf tee times beforehand, so please contact him if you would like to play. w.donahue@att.net
