Last week two grant recipients told us about the important services that they provide to our community. Cathy Meyers from St. Vincent de Paul Society, explained that their charity provides immediate help of the poor and the needy. They sponsor food collection for the parish food pantry. Where there is a need, they help pay portions of rent, electric, and/or heating bills. They are financed from donations to the poor boxes at the church entrances, and by individual donations. They also sponsor a Christmas gift program. Shelley Welch from WINGS Program, Inc. said that the charity helps to create a society in which every domestic violence survivor has a voice and the resources to break the cycle of domestic violence. They provide housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence. Adriane and Tom had birthdays to celebrate and wanted anyone in uniform at the meeting to sing to them - which meant Bo and Shawn. Lisa offered to direct them in song. |
