Last week we heard about the wonderful community service that two of our grant recipients provide. Sarah Swiston spoke to us about WINGS, an agency that helps victims of domestic violence by providing emergency shelter and crisis assistance along with mental health counseling giving victims the tools they need to escape a dangerous situation and to move towards safety and self-sufficiency. WINGS welcomes donations of gently used clothing, accessories, housewares and furniture at three locations, including 1302 N. Rand Rd. in Arlington Heights. Emily Petway, the founder of GiveNKind, explained that her organization is a logistics broker of usable goods donated by businesses, fulfillment centers, and distributors that are then available at no cost to 501(c)3 nonprofits. Volunteers are critical to GiveNKind and they have numerous volunteer opportunities available depending on volunteers’ interests and skills. Online volunteer opportunities are available; in person opportunities are available to support the GiveNKind Center in Mundelein. See https://givenkind.org for more information.

May 7 - 1 pm at Green Lake for a dedication and tour of the Arboretum that our club provided financial assistance and volunteers for. Here is the sign that will be installed there:
May 21 - 9 am to noon - Willow Stream Park at the nature playground near the outdoor pool off of Farrington Drive. We will be planting native plants at an overgrown bed and on a berm (unoficially Ryan's Hill) nearby. This is a project that we hope to get many club members out to help. Thanks!
My name is Jacob Edley and I’m a junior at Stevenson High School. I’m doing an impact project through Springboard’s 18 under 18 program where I partnered with PCs for People in order to get computers into the hands of Illinois residents who don’t have computer access.
I was hoping to inform local businesses of an upcoming donation event I am doing. Is it possible for you to pass on the information below to fellow Rotary members? Getting businesses involved with my project can really make a huge difference.
I’m reaching out to you hoping that your company may have used computers or other electronic devices that you can donate to help Illinois residents in need. I’m holding a village-wide donation event at the Community Arts Center (225 McHenry Rd, Buffalo Grove) on Sunday, March 27th from 1-4pm. If you can’t drop off at this time, PCs for People can pick up from you directly at no cost if you have at least 15 computers.
PCs for People is a non-profit that is working with the Connect Illinois Computer Equity Network project to refurbish and distribute these devices. PCs for People employs a number of methods, such as proper data sanitation and a no landfill policy, to ensure the donated computers are put to good use and your company’s information is secure.
