Last week we heard about the wonderful community service that two of our grant recipients provide. Sarah Swiston spoke to us about WINGS, an agency that helps victims of domestic violence by providing emergency shelter and crisis assistance along with mental health counseling giving victims the tools they need to escape a dangerous situation and to move towards safety and self-sufficiency. WINGS welcomes donations of gently used clothing, accessories, housewares and furniture at three locations, including 1302 N. Rand Rd. in Arlington Heights. See https://wingsprogram.com for more information.
Emily Petway, the founder of GiveNKind, explained that her organization is a logistics broker of usable goods donated by businesses, fulfillment centers, and distributors that are then available at no cost to 501(c)3 nonprofits. Volunteers are critical to GiveNKind and they have numerous volunteer opportunities available depending on volunteers’ interests and skills. Online volunteer opportunities are available; in person opportunities are available to support the GiveNKind Center in Mundelein. See https://givenkind.org for more information.
