This is what our club and other Rotarians, families and friends accomplished over the past week at Ak’ Tenamit in Guatemala: -Bath house trusses completed, roof to be installed by the kids next week and they will have a dedicated area to bathe and do laundry -concrete steps were created leading to the bath /laundry facility -24 posters framed and installed through the school to hopefully raise awareness and raise funds by the 100’s of cruise ship tourists that visit the school every week -dental boat was repainted and a waiting room was created with a magazine rack and all.... Amanda Olson-Schmidt I could have used your help:). Magazine rack came complete with People Magazine and golf digest -the dentist saw several kids that needed fillings, a root canal and a couple that needed teeth pulled -support beams were installed on the girls deck to reinforce the roof as the termites were destroying the existing supports -poppy foot field was upgraded to include a smoother surface, soccer and basketball. -donated kayaks were all numbered and painted with the school name...in hopes of raising funds for the school from tourists -English was taught to several 100’s of amazing kids that want to soak in every word -the eye doctor saw several kids and provided a handful of sunglasses to kids in need. In addition he has identified several kids that desperately need glasses -which will be delivered to the school in the next several weeks -a seedling building was completed in hopes of being able to grow more nutritional foods for the kids They had an amazing week! Thanks to all who went, especially thanks to Dan Wolf and Stephen Legge for their leadership!
A Rotary Friendship Exchange team of 6 couples from Rotary District 3060 (west-central India) will visit our area June 1-14, 2018, just prior to the Rotary International Convention in Toronto. We are collaborating with Northern Illinois Rotary districts 6420 and 6450 for this Friendship Exchange. The team is hosted by 6440 from June 10 until their departure June 14. We need 6 host families for this period. The main responsibility is providing housing, meals when they are at home (breakfast, dinner if not with the group) and usually making sure they get to and from the designated pick up spot for the activities for each day. Anyone interested in being a host family should contact PDG Rick Rivkin, 847-909-9072, Gov.Rick@Rotary6440.org
Thanks,
Rick Richard A. Rivkin Rotary Zone 28 Assistant Rotary Coordinator 2017-2018 District 6440 District Governor 2016-2017 E-mail: Gov.Rick@rotary6440.org
