I have regretfully decided that I must stop participating in the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club. See Letter.

Dear Rotary Friends,
I have regretfully decided that I must stop participating in the Buffalo Grove
Rotary Club. As I have mentioned occasionally at Rotary meetings, I am planning to
move to Minnesota in a year and a half or so. It seems far away, but, I am going to
need all my time to try to pack up years of accumulated stuff, and get out of my
apartment and out of my obligations! I have already dropped my Sierra Club
obligations as well as my responsibilities for l’Alliance Française du North Shore. I am
even easing slowly out of the BG Environmental Team.
However, my responsibilities for the League of Women Voters are actually
increasing as I am working to train or persuade others to take over various duties.
There will be a new dues structure that will require our little League to get a website,
and I am working to turn over our newsletter, Chair of our deputy registrars, liaisons to
the Lake County and Illinois levels of League, as well as train people to run Zoom
meetings and webinars for candidate forums. All these things I have been doing.
And, now that the LWV of the US has made the abolishment of the electoral
college a nationwide campaign, our committee is getting more involved at the national
level of our organization. I am hoping to have LWVUS take over the monthly meetings
and trainings of presenters and securing speakers for background presentations that
we have been doing, but it will probably take most of 2025 for this transition.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of requests for presentations. Lately I’ve gone to McHenry,
Minooka, Glenview, and soon to Galena, as well as given Zoom presentations to other
states.
On top of everything, I am feeling my age. At 77, I get tired easier and I do not
accomplish as much in a day as I used to. So, I have earned a D- in my progress in
cleaning out my apartment this past year and I need to get more done. (The main
problem is piles and piles of papers that I really prefer to go through than just jettison.
Have you ever seen an old professor’s office that has those piles all over? That’s me.)
Lastly, I cannot stand up for very long. I really need to be able to sit for most
activities. So, I have been unable to participate in most of the projects of our Rotary
Club of BG. And, honestly, I have discovered that I am more interested in activist-type
endeavors than good deeds as my preference for what I enjoy doing.
I have very much enjoyed being part of such a wonderful group of people. It has
been a pleasant and meaningful experience. Thank you for your leadership, Brian, and
thank you to everyone for all you do for Rotary.
