Bryce Weiler Dec 03, 2020
Overcoming obstacles for individuals with disabilities, as I am blind.

My name is Bryce Weiler. I am a blind individual who has been working on programs for people who are disabled with the Baltimore Orioles. With the Orioles, I have helped the team create programs to help people who are disabled be able to play on the field with players and coaches before games. Also, I have helped the Orioles become the first team in sports to wear Braille on their jerseys to honor people who are blind. I am helping run a nonprofit called The Beautiful Lives Project, where we work to help people who are disabled be able to experience programs in sports, art, cheer and dance, as well as ballet. Here is the link to our web site. www.beautifullives.org I was hoping to be able to speak to your rotary club over zoom about my life and overcoming obstacles. In my speech I am going to be talking about how people did not think that I could work in sports since I am blind, how I have commentated over 150 games on the radio as a blind sports broadcaster, how The Beautiful Lives Project helps people with disabilities to be able to live their dreams across the country, and the importance of people giving back time to others. Also, I am going to speak about how Marty Simmons changed my life by giving me the opportunity to sit on the Evansville basketball bench and how this opportunity lead me to want to help people with disabilities to be able to live their dreams in sports and other programs across the country. Through this speech I hope to show the members of the rotary club how important the various roles and projects are that they participate in each day while showing them how fortunate they are to not have a disability and how they should never take each day in life for granted.
