Each year, Rotary members have the opportunity to take their time and talent abroad with International Service Trips. These trips provide opportunities to volunteer in and experience local communities who need the resources, expertise, and energy we—and Rotary—can provide. They’re also a way to see the world—and make a positive impact while doing so. Join us and help us create lasting change in communities around the world.

Our Rotary District, District 6440, offers several opportunities to travel this winter and spring.
District Trip
The 2017 District Trip is to Cusco, Peru, from March 24 to April 3, 2017. Planned in partnership with Rotary Club Julio Delgado Cusco, the project involves work to improve the Young Girls Home San Judas Chico Project. During the trip, Rotary members will update several areas of the school, including installing lockers for the girls, conducting small repairs throughout the school, hanging curtains in the students’ bedrooms, and implementing a small computer lab. Cusco is a city in southeastern Peru near the Andes mountain range. Members have the option to choose one of several additional side trips at the end of the workweek, allowing them to explore some of the region. The cost of the trip includes round-trip airfare, lunches and dinners, hotel, daily transportation, materials for the project, and the cost of sidetrips can be added. For more information, visit District 6440’s trip information page.
Local Club Trips
Three of our area Rotary clubs are also offering service trips, open to all Rotarians, this winter and spring.
The Barrington Breakfast Rotary Club is planning a service trip, open to all, to Santa Maria de Jesus, Guatemala, just outside Antigua, from February 19 to 27, 2017. During the trip, Rotary members will build a greenhouse with hydroponic and aquaponic components, alongside community members, and tutor students at a local girls’ school in reading and chess. For additional information, please visit BBRC’s trip page.
The Buffalo Grove Rotary Club is planning two service trips, open to all, to Ak’ Tenamit, Guatemala. The first trip will take place March 11 to March 19 and the second from March 25 to April 2. These trips mark the 10th consecutive year of service for Buffalo Grove Rotary Club at Ak’ Tenamit. Both trips will focus on site improvement, including construction of new bunk beds, continued dormitory and facility maintenance, installation of new solar panels, and more. Information on the trip is available on Buffalo Grove Rotary Club’s trip page.
