February 24, 2023 Youth Services Chairman John Kent announced that four "Global Awareness" grants will be awarded to area high schools. The grants were created and funded to support teachers and local school clubs in the creation and promotion of programs that support language immersion, cultural awareness and global awareness. Grant recipients are:
- John Hersey High School:
- Asian Student Association Club. The grant will be used to help fund events and activities celebrating Asian American Pacific Islander month in May 2023.
- Culture week and culture show highlighting the various cultures present at Hersey via performance. The show will be held April 21st and is open to all Hersey students.
- Prospect High School
- French Exchange Program
- Italian Exchange Program. The Prospect High School grants will help provide a scholarship for a family in need of financial support to participate in Prospect's French and Italian Exchange Programs. Participants in these programs have the opportunity to host a native French/Italian speaking student here and live with a native speaking host family abroad for 10 days.
