This week’s meeting was a true testimony to the way that Rotary Connects the World and how Zoom can help facilitate that.  Our guest speakers were three Rotarians from the Uwara Satelite Club from Guatemals City.  Also joining us were Rotarians from Brisbane, Australia, Cary Grove, Lake in the Hills, Barrington Breakfast, Huntley, and Chicago Near South, our own Arlington Heights Rotarians from Florida, and San Diego, and an invited guest from Antigua, Guatemala.
Patty Garcia Sosa, Monica Davila, and Ricardo Romero are members of the first satellite club in Guatemala.  Monica and Patty, two of the charter members were already members of a very traditional Rotary club that met in the evening, but they wanted a club that was more active and engaged.  Since they are all young professionals they needed a club that met in the evenings.  When they were unable to find one, the District Governor at the time, who they fondly refer to as their godfather, helped them find a club to join as a satellite club.  They currently have 10 members and are engaged in a variety of projects which they shared with our club.  Their biggest , although certainly not only, project to date has been the school at El Rodeo which was the focus of a service project this year with District 6440.  In the words of their godfather:  "Rotary is a machine for making dreams come true."  Thank you to Patty, Monica, and Ricardo for sharing your time, and your passion for Rotary.
