Congratulations to Two Rotarians! The Rotary Club of Algonquin was proud to celebrate two Rotarians recently. First, we welcomed new member, Jeanne Foot to the Club. Jeanne has deep ties and roots in the Algonquin community, even representing the town as Miss Algonquin in 1981! Jeanne is passionate about health and self-care and currently serves as the Spa Director at CaTara Medical Spa in Algonquin. Secondly, we celebrated longtime Rotarian Peggy Lackman's naming as a Paul Haris Fellow by Rotary International. Paul Harris Fellows date back to the late 1930's and celebrate Rotarians who are committed to the mission of Rotary International and who have contributed, financially and otherwise, toward its cause. Join us in celebrating our Rotarians Jeanne and Peggy. Congratulations! |
Applications available for Algonquin River Relief Benefit FundsAlgonquin Rotary Club is working with Algonquin Founders’ Days/River Relief Benefit. Thanks to funds collected at Algonquin Founders’ Car Show/Cruise Night, many anonymous donors, and the River Relief Benefit. Algonquin Rotary Club is offering funds to help relieve the financial hardships caused by the recent natural disaster in our community, the flood of July 2017. While a finding of distress does not require families and individuals to be in a state of poverty or destitution, this Flood Relief is intended to assist those who are facing the most severe financial hardship. Therefore those determined to have the greatest need will be given a higher priority in our process. Funds will be processed by Algonquin Rotary Club and are intended to meet immediate needs for necessary household furnishings, appliances, food and utilities, as well as cleanup and repair or reimbursement of expenses. If you live in Algonquin and have experienced losses due to the flood of July 2017, please download the application form under the right column titled "Homepage Download Files." Fill out the application and return it to the Algonquin Rotary Club Flood Relief, P.O. Box 111, Algonquin, IL 60102, by Friday, October 15, 2017. Flood Relief Committee Co-Chair Contact |

Pedal 4 Pads Bike-A-Thon and Used Bike Donation EventDual “Bicycle” Event to help the Needy! Donate Your Bicycles to Give OLD Bikes NEW Homes and Pedal for PADS Bike-a-Thon! Sunday September 22, 2013 9:00 am – 2:00pm The Algonquin–Lake in the Hills Rotary Club is sponsoring a bicycle collection for Working Bikes, www.workingbikes.org an organization that rescues discarded bicycles and gives them new life, AND is co-sponsoring the 6th annual Pedal for PADS Bike-a-Thon to help raise money for homeless services through Pioneer Center’s McHenry County PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter). Community residents have two ways to participate!
Donate your old or non-working bikes in any condition to the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Club. Working Bikes donates over 6000 bicycles each year to international and local partners. Countless bicycles are discarded or sit unused in basements or garages in the US every year. In a developing country, a bicycle can truly change the life of an individual, their family and their community. Bicycles are also used for towing cargo, and even as a source of electricity through the creation of pedal-powered machines! In areas plagued by poverty, high levels of unemployment and lack of reliable, accessible transportation, a bicycle can help provide access to jobs, education, medical attention, and other resources. Working Bikes partners with homeless transition, refugee resettlement, and youth empowerment programs in Chicago to donate bicycles and put them to good use on our streets. Please donate and help us make this an annual event! A red tent will be located at 1113 Pyott Road, Lake in the Hills in front of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry parking lot for easy drop off between 9:00 am-2:00 pm. Rotarians and Jacobs High School Interact students will help take bikes from vehicles. Signs will be posted. If you can’t drop your bicycles off on Sunday, please call Virginia Freyre 224-223-7236 to arrange a pick up before Sunday.
Don’t have a bicycle to donate? Pedal for PADS www.pedal4pads.org event organizer, Larry Ferrarini, is recruiting bicycle riders and walkers of all ages and abilities to help raise money for the homeless. Participants will choose a distance from 1 to 35 miles of the McHenry County Prairie Trail to ride or walk. The cost is $10 per person, $30 per family, or $40 for a team of 6 riders or less. All participants are encouraged to collect additional pledges, and a grand prize will be awarded to the individual that raises the most money. Ferrarini hopes to raise $25,000 and says, “Bring the whole family, it’s a great way to get kids involved in charitable causes and instill, at a young age, a love for serving and helping those in need.” Riders need to return by Noon to enjoy music by No Left Turn, lunch, participate in raffles and a children’s bike parade. Rider check-in is 8:00-9:00 am. For online registration, sponsorship and donations please go to www.pedal4pads.org and click signup. Larsen Park is in Lake in the Hills and connected to the Prairie Bike Trail. Take Pyott Road to E. Oak Street to Creekview Lane to the parking lot. Signs will be posted to direct attendees to the park. Rain or Shine.
