Above is program speaker Jean Reed, wife of late rotary member Walter Reed.

Guest Speaker Jean Read did this program for us as a tribute to her late husband Walter.

Walter Reed, who left Germany as a teenager, died Jan. 13, 2016 at the age of 91.

Walter wrote about his experiences, and those of other Jewish children who fled Germany and Austria during World War II, last year in his book, "The Children of La Hille: Eluding Nazi Capture During World War II." He also spoke at local organizations about the Holocaust.

His wife of 46 years Jeanne Reed said she wants to continue her husband's mission, as "the whole purpose of the book was to honor these people that saved the children and to educate people on what happened to children in the war."

She said she will continue speaking in her husband's stead at previously scheduled engagements through May.
