Posted by Al Anile

Club Assembly was the main topic at our weekly meeting on November 11, 2014, which consisted of a general review of our annual goals and club activities reports.
The topic receiving the most attention was an ongoing International Project as outlined in the following report by International Projects Chair Joaquin Mejia:
GLOBAL GRANT FOR
ENCOURAGING CHANGE AND CIVIC PARTICIPATION
International service project,
Rotary Club of Skokie Valley
2014-15
THE ISSUE: Students of Mexican secondary-level schools (ages 13-16) are seldom encouraged to actively participate in their communities. Apathy and low levels of civic participation characterize many young groups. The country is facing an uphill battle against negative influences.
THE GOAL: This initiative aims at granting special scholarships to1, 000 secondary-level teachers who will be trained in the DISEÑA EL CAMBIO INITIATIVE. In their turn, each teacher is expected to replicate his/her experiences in the classroom. Participating teachers will increase their professional qualifications (leading to better evaluations in their yearly performance review) and will also derive strong satisfaction from their contributions to the community.
Through this training, the teachers will be enabled to understand the better understand the benefits of active civic participation and involvement. Every teacher will be expected to organize effective student teams, leading them to communicate responsibly with their peers, the sponsoring local Rotarians, and the community at large. By facilitating the student’s active participation in service projects of their choice the teachers will be creating a life-changing attitude.
Individual training: $110.00
Group training: $110,000.00
Administrative expenses: (transportation, meals, etc.) $3,500.00
