Aseem R. Mahajan joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998 Prior to assuming charge as Consul General of India in Houston in January '20, he was Ambassador/DPR of India to the World Trade Organization, Geneva In his earlier diplomatic assignments, he had served as the Deputy High Commissioner in Indian mission in Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka and as the Consul General of India, Osaka, Japan. He had also served in Indian Missions in Tokyo and Vientiane, Laos In his stints in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi he has served on various desks handling affairs related to United Nations, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Maldives. Besides, he also served as the Staff Officer to the Minister of State for External Affairs and as Joint Secretary coordinating the management of the annual Haj Pilgrimage from India He has a Master's degree in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Oxford (UK), a Master's degree in Management Studies from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (India) and has completed two annual training courses in WTO Law from the Advisory Centre on WTO Law, Geneva He speaks Japanese apart from English, Hindi and some other Indian languages. He is married with a son and daughter.
