Les Summers, fellow Rotarian, and father-in-law to Leora Summers, passed away on March 15, 2013 at a Nampa Care Center, with his wife, Betty, at his side. Betty and Les celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary just the day before. Les had been a member of our club for 69 years, having been the longest time member of our club at the time of his death. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, also contributing to make his two sons, David and Sam, and his wife, Betty, Paul Harris Fellows. Les was our club's president from 1953-54. In his younger years, Les served his community well. He had been the head of the hospital board, on the Salvation Army board, a member of the Elks and of the Shriners. He was a charter member of the Caldwell Centennial Band, playing snare drum. He was instrumental in bringing Purple Sage Golf Course to fruition. Until his passing, I never realized all the community service and community development activities in which Les was involved. May God bless him and may he rest in peace.
