January 20th was a busy day for our club. Charlotte Borst, C of I  President, was our speaker and Barry Fujishin, C of I  Major Gifts Officer, was inducted into our club on that day. Milon delivered the news that we finished delivering chapter books to 1,400 second graders in 17 area schools in Canyon and Owyhee Counties.

It is always special when someone receives Paul Harris Award recognition and this day was special as we had two members receive recognition beyond their first PHF award. Doug Reinke was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) +2. He has recognized his wife Debbie, his son David and his daughter Katy Reinke Reynolds with a Paul Harris Fellow while earning his PHF +2 pin. Greg Evans earned his PHF+1.

Paul Harris Fellow Awards are given to members who have earned $1,000 marks in giving or with combined recognition points to The Rotary Foundation (TRF), which is the international working arm of the organization that promotes peace through humanitarian efforts across the globe, with the emphasis on health, education and other related projects.

Through TRF and the World Health Organization (WHO), polio has almost been wiped out globally. As of December 9, 2015, 49 cases of wild poliovirus from Pakistan and 17 cases from Afghanistan have been reported. With the help of Bill Gates and his matching program, we are almost there.
