It's Official! : Fairbanks' newest Rotary Club will receive its charter this Thursday evening.
This Thursday evening, Rotary International President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, of Göteborg, Sweden, will present the official charter certifying the Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary Club at a reception honoring his visit to Fairbanks at the Museum of the North.
The Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary Club is our area's only club to hold its regular membership meetings in the evening. With the formation of this new club, area Rotarians hope to expand Rotary membership to individuals unable to attend the current breakfast or lunch meetings offered at the other area clubs such as educators, health care professionals, and service professionals including our armed forces.
The new Rotary Club is sponsored by the area's four other Rotary clubs, and has been actively meeting since November 2005. Once a regular meeting time was set, interest in the club just boomed. This past December the new club organized its first service project and met its membership requirement for charter several months ahead of schedule. John Pile Jr., club organizer, and Founding President was encouraged by the interest saying "I really had no expectation that we'd have everything in place so soon."
Early this year the club submitted their official bylaws and constitution and selected its officers and board members. Only four of the clubs members are transferring Rotarians. The new group is excited to have attracted members who are looking to create a new atmosphere and foster more opportunity for exploring the social aspect of their Rotary Club.
Charter President John Pile Jr. and the clubs members regard this as an exceptional opportunity. The group is honored to receive its charter from the Rotary International President in person, and to share that moment with the many supportive friends who encouraged them to move forward with formation.
Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary meets each Tuesday evening from 6:00 �?" 7:00 p.m. As for location, the group is taking the time to decide on the perfect meeting site, and is spending a month at each suggested location before making a permanent decision. Through March the group will meet at the New Hideout Lounge, located just off the Old Steese behind Seekins Ford at 1288 Saddler Way.
