Rotary District 6990 held its annual conference onboard the Carnival Imagination Nov 15-19 2007.  President Mike, PP Richard, PP & PADG Sonny, and Wilbur enjoyed the entertainment and hospitality onboard along with spouses, Sonny's grandson, and a host of other Rotarians from Grand Bahama and South Florida.

It was VIP treatment all the way as the Rotary cruise organizers had arranged an early embarkation and gourmet lunch for attendees before the Carnival Imagination departed from Port of Miami on a picture perfect twilight evening.

Fellowship started right away as the open seating plan and host of onboard activities meant you could easily rekindle old Rotary friendships and easily make new ones.  How about the fellowship of blackjack players, sushi eaters, or dance-up-a-storm in the disco goers?  It was all going on.

Key West was the first port of call where a selection of museums, shops, bars and restaurants were all within walking distance.  Hair of the dog anyone?  In the evening, as the ship sailed into the sunset, Rotarians attended another informative presentation, keeping up to speed on the various programs, grants, and opportunities available through Rotary.

If its Saturday, it must be Mexico!  With a 1pm scheduled arrival time, it was lovely to spend the previous hour out on deck watching as the ship glided past Cancun, the island of Cozumel, and Playa del Carmen before slipping into her dock at Calica.  Pyramids, cenotes, jungle hikes, fishing trips, scuba diving, bar hopping, and shopping, to name a few of the vast array of activities offered in the region.  Mexico gives a real taste of history, culture, and adventure!

Sunday, a day of rest.  Or a day of Rotary as the presentations concluded with another informative meeting.  It was also a day to catch up on your suntan, learn how to fold towels into animal shapes, get a massage in the spa, enter a poker tournament, or just relax.  The final dinner together had everyone in good spirits, or perhaps influenced by good spirits, and even the celebrities onboard for the Soap Opera Stars cruise couldn't escape fellowship of their new female Rotarian fan club.

The next Rotary District cruise is planned for Feb 2009.  Don't miss it!
