Club support for Haiti

Rotary clubs around the region have been contributing into a fund which is sending food down to Haiti in the form of individual meals.  A container costing $7,500 holding 284,000 meals, will be distributed by Rotarians on the ground in Haiti, directly into the hands of the people who need it most.  They are being assisted by the Red Cross and escorted by international peace keeping forces.  A number of these containers are in the works.

Realising that giving a man a fish will only feed him for a day yet teaching a man to fish will feed him for a life time, Rotary clubs are also working on the development of sustainable agri-projects in Rotary communities funded by micro credit projects and using the co-op model.

In addition to the contributions coming from Rotary in the Bahamas, the 2007-2008 Rotary Zone 33 and Zone 34 District Governors Contingency Fund, Kids Against Hunger, Lifeline (a Christian group), Hope for Haiti, and the Red Cross, are working together to assist.

Rotary District 7020 consists of 69 Rotary Clubs in 10 countries with 4 languages, including clubs in Anguilla (1), Abaco(1), Nassau (6), British Virgin Islands (2), US Virgin Islands (9), Cayman Islands (4), French St Martin (3), Dutch St Maarten (2), Haiti (16), Jamaica (23) and 2 clubs in the Turks & Caicos islands.
