TODAY'S PROGRAM:
SLO JAZZ FEST with Guest Speaker; Scott Andrews.
President Scott Astrosky welcomed everyone at 12:10 and we had an invocation then
Mr. Curry led us in the flag salute.
On to the food table: "On top of spaghetti all covered in gluten, I lost my poor appetite and nobody sneezed!"
Dr.Joel Conn strolled in late but made up for it later with his inspirational messages.

INSPIRATIONAL DOLLARS:
Someone said; "The Steelers won yesterday." Not sure if the voice was insinuating it was crappy or happy but it made my husband happy!
Ms. Liscombe shared her Rotary anniversary of Sept. 18th. It was actually Sept. 24th. Leanne was asked to tell us something interesting about herself or pay $35.00.
She responded;
"I'll think I'll just pay the $35.00."
Michael Boyer was called out for not being present to give the invocation and fined $20.00.
Mr. Boyer spoke the day prior at the Interact Club.
Interact Club AGHS is at 11:55 on Mondays.
Andrea Lueker asked Connie if the students were "unruly" or quiet at the club. Apparently, it was "like crickets."
Mr. Holden shared about his trip to Maine/Cape Cod for his wife's birthday. He was fined $25.
Greg Baker shared about his trip to Utah including beautiful Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Arches.
He was fined $40.
President Scott asked Mr. Mund and Mr. Nagler:
"What year was the official Rotary flag adopted?"
Neither were correct. The correct answer:1929. Mr Nagler was fined $20. Shelby and Trusha were asked:
"The 1st official Rotary flag was flown in what State?"
Shelby guessed and Missouri is the correct state.
Trusha was fined $10.
I was then asked to stand with Don
and asked: "What year was the Rotary motto introduced?"
I was clueless and had to "phone a friend."
Thank you Michael Boyer; my guess was 1917. The correct answer was 1911.
PROGRAM:
SLO JAZZ FEST/Mr. Scott Andrews.
Mr. Andrews is the Executive Director & Founder of SLO Jazz Fest. He is a saxophonist in the band "Black Market Trio."
Recently, had his moment in the spotlight when he played his sax during the filming of the movie "Destination Wedding" starring Winona Ryder and Kenau Reeves. You will hear him playing his sax for about "40 seconds" in the movie.
Mr. Andrews is involved in musical outreach and education and stated it is important to "celebrate life through music."

Jazz music is therapeutic to help those with dementia.
Scott shared about his father who suffers from dementia.
The recently passed John Landon has produced the art work for all the festivals.
He shared pictures from past festivals including a tribute to Prince after his passing titled;
"The Purple Ones."
On the financial aspect of this event, it costs a minimum of $80,000.
They need more membership and sponsors to ensure their success.
Future goals include:
After-Dark Jazz Series, Cal Poly event during Jazz month of April, Brunch-or Lunch Shows, and have more talks and educational workshops.
The Summer Jazz Workshops are usually students in 8th grade-college freshmen. However, the "older folk" may attend as well.
There are sponsor opportunities, including TV spots,
postcard mailings, and memberships.
He hopes to expand his board of directors and needs volunteers to assist with events.
Next Jazz Fest will be September 27-28th 2019 in the Mission Plaza,SLO.
The potential line-up includes, Sergio Mendes, Jeff Lorber, Anton Schwartz, and Boogie Stomp.
Everything from Funk-Latin.

Then Steve Burnside raises his hand but stated that "Ella Schiesl "ROCKED" the greeting today!"
So, she was chosen to pick the ticket to draw the rock to win cash.
Connie has the ticket and draws the white rock.
NEXT MEETING PROGRAM:
Oct. 2nd, Cal Poly Canine Zeus with Officer Pipan.
DRIVE TO INSPIRE/Dr. Conn-He spoke about how when we surround ourselves with like-minded people it can be detrimental because we may think everyone thinks like us.
He stated;
"No-one is entitled to be ignorant."
Joel also shared about cancer awareness month and how his niece was diagnosed at age 2 but is now 14 and doing great!
