Speaker: Bob Mariucci, Athletic Director for Cuesta College was our featured speaker. Bob has been at Cuesta in his current position for 20 years. He stressed that Cuesta is a great academic institution with a rich tradition in athletics. All local kids are offered the "Cuesta Promise". Free tuition at Cuesta for their first two years of school provided they qualify academically. Cuesta College has 15 sports teams with over 300 student athletes. Over the years many Cuesta athletes have gone on to play varsity sports at 4 year colleges and universities all over the country. Bob grew up in Michigan, the youngest of 6 children. His dad was a boxing and wrestling coach at Northern Michigan University. Bob and his wife have 3 college aged daughters. He also talked about his brother Steve, who was head coach for the Forty-Niners for 5 years.
Announcements: President Jack Hardy opened our meeting by thanking John and Marcia Traversaro for graciously hosting our Christmas party at their home. Jack also reminded the club that next week's meeting will feature a Christmas music performance by local musician Roy Henry. He truly respects Roy's musical talent and urged everyone to be sure to attend. Karen Zappia presented John and Krystal Goebel and their children with Disneyland tickets and $500 gift card. Diane DiResto was our Rotarian of the Week. Diane grew up in North County until moving to Cararillo where she married her husband. They moved back to the Central coast where Diane has been a massage therapist for 25 years. She enjoys travel and her favorite trip thus far has been to Italy.
Fines and Recognitions: Eric Mund won the fine free badge for December and was recognized for his birthday. Lee Ann was recognized for $50 for her trip to Boston. Anya Stanley was assessed a $25 fine, because the flag and Rotary Wheel were missing at the meeting. Jim Lewis announced he would pay Anya's fine and President Jack upped the fine to $50. Paul Holden was also assessed a $25 fine.
