Community Service Project for Five Cities Homeless Coalition
This week the club tried something new! Usually the club has a happy hour social the last week of the month in lieu of the regular meeting. This month the club performed a service project in lieu of the regular meeting this week and in lieu of a happy hour social.
Volunteers prepared two evening meals for the Five Cities Homeless Coalition. Each meal serves 50 people. The volunteers prepared a Mexican Chili bean casserole for one evening and Lasagna for the next. Five Cities Homeless Coalition had a chef and a helper, Michael and Devon, to oversee the meal preparation. The Rotary club was split into two groups. The first group cut and prepared the food from 11AM until Noon. The whole group broke for lunch at noon. We had sandwiches from California Fresh along with a baggie of carrots and edamame, a cookie, raisins and a tangerine. After lunch, the second group cooked the meals. It all went well with no problems. Thank you to Anya for arranging this Community Service Project! It was a great project.
The volunteers were Steve and Linda Curry, John & Marcia Traversaro, Greg Holsen, Sharon Olson, LaShawndra Scaccianoce (Grover Beach Rotary), Ed Harris, Todd Huebler, Sharon Ellis, David Morneau, Anya Stanley and Scott Astrosky. Unfortunately, not everyone was there when Sharon Olson took a picture.
