Foundation Goals for 2008-9

Message from the RI Foundation Chair for 2008-9, Jonathan Majiyagbe:

"In recent years, it has become customary for the incoming trustee chair of the Rotary Foundation to establish goals that will motivate Rotarians to action and provide a framework for measuring our achievement.

"In developing the goals for the Foundation in 2008-9, I considered what broad objectives could best make our Foundation even stronger and more prominent today.  I asked myself what Rotarians can do to help the Foundation better meet the world's ever-increasing human needs.  After much throught, I determined that during 2008-9, the Rotary Foundation will:

  • Keep our promise to eradicate polio.
  • Embrace the two Foundation pillars of support: the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year initiative, and the Permanent Fund.
  • Participate in Your Foundation/Our Foundation, a "lend a hand" program for sharing funds from club and district foundations to permanently establish the Rotary World Peace Fellowships program and support global polio eradication.
  • Enhance Rotary's public image.
  • Support the Foundation's Future Vision Plan."

Strategic Goals - Boost Membership

"Order up some extra chairs for your club meeting space: The RI Strategic Plan 2007-10 calls for each Rotary club to expand by one to two members annually over the next three years.  The plan also urges Rotary clubs to reduce the average age of their membersship by three years by 2012.

"The 2007-10 plan establishes RI's mission, vision, core values, and seven priorities, including 'expanding membership globally in both numbers and quality.' The RI Board, which approved the plan, put the fucus on younger members and pepple in emerging professions.  The Board also is calling on Rotarians to recruit alums of Rotaract, Youth Exchange, Ambassodorial Scholarships, and other programs."
