District Governor Dick Lohmiller

DG Lohmiller was born in San Francisco but has lived in Cupertino since 1966. He is a 17 year veteran of Rotary and has chaired numerous club & district programs.   DG Lohmiller expressed his appreciation for our hosting him and indicated how much he enjoys visiting each of the clubs in our district.    He stressed that although the District serves to bring clubs together and helps clubs fulfill their missions, Rotary really happens inside the clubs.  He applauded SC Sunrise Rotary for our great membership and many annual accomplishments.  Pat Davis was specifically recognized for her perennial work on the Avenues of Service. 

DG Lohmiller described his spin on this year's theme of "Rotary Shares".  He encouraged everyone to flip it and "Share Rotary" which took him into a discussion of his primary two Rotary passions:  Strengthening Clubs and the Rotary Foundation.  Regarding the latter, DG Lohmiller spends as much time as possible working with clubs and encouraging them in several areas: take on meaningful and important projects, increase membership and most importantly spend significant effort on member retention. His commitment to the Rotary Foundation was cemented during a trip to Turkey to install a pediatric heart monitor his club had purchased.   Seeing first hand the need for their gift and the immediate benefit it was having sold him.  

DG Lohmiller encouraged every member to be at least a double sustainer (donate $200/yr to the Rotary Foundation).   He then recognized members Rich Ehle as a new Paul Harris Fellow and Jim Alberti as a continuing PHF.   Congratulations gentlemen! 

President Bryant then presented DG Lohmiller with a lovely wedding gift (you had to be there ) in appreciation of his visit.
