Our June 7 meeting will be a very special hands-on example of Rotarians in Action, with all of us helping to bring smiles and pride to children born with a condition that can bring shame in some cultures. For our belated 5th Wednesday Service Project, we will be painting braces used in clubfoot treatment How exciting to have Hope Walks with us again on June 7th, for this heartwarming service project. As you learned at our meeting this week, we will be painting braces to make them more attractive and fun for the beautiful children who need to wear them to straighten their feet. No need to worry, artistic skills are not needed!
“With this brace-painting project, we have the ability to spread love and joy halfway around the world. There is no better feeling than knowing our small act of kindness really can change someone’s life. It really is a privilege to be able to be part of this project,” President Russ said.
It would be fantastic to see some of your friends, family members and coworkers join on the day of service, to make the impact even greater!
Hope Walks was formed when CURE Club Foot changed its emphasis to only surgical remedies. Hope Walks, on the other hand, seeks to locate children with club foot soon after birth. This is a time when non-surgical methods can be used and children can have club foot corrected to a point where the child can walk normally by the time they are ready to learn to walk. The cost of treatment is about $500, much less than surgical treatments. These nonsurgical methods can be used throughout the world. The Ponseti method of treatment involves 6 weekly sessions of casting, 3 weeks for tendon release, and then bracing up until age 5. After they walk, bracing is done while sleeping as a retainer.

The 56th 4-H Strawberry Roundup and Auction continued an annual RCL tradition. Starting in 1956, the Rotary Club of Lancaster has sponsored the 4-H Strawberry Roundup ever since. This event gives Rotarians a chance to meet and support young future farmers of Lancaster County. After the strawberries were judged, the champions of the various divisions were invited to our May 31st meeting where they were introduced to us and their strawberries were auctioned off. The winning 4-H members received all of the bid amount. The students took home a total of $2,950 from the auction.

The 4-H introduced us to the Image Science team they participate with as part of the Lancaster STEM Alliance. Inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders.

We are selling Mister Carwash tickets at the upcoming club meetings, as well as at the Wheels, Wings & 5K. The club will receive 50% of the selling price of each carwash ticket. Carwash tickets can be purchased for:
$30.00 for Interior Clean (wash, wheel cleaner, interior vacuum and clean)
$20.00 for Platinum Exterior (wash, wheel polish, HotShine wax, repel shield, tire shine, under body wash)
$10.00 for Base Exterior (wash and wheel cleaner)
Bruce Wolff will have the tickets in the back of the room during club meetings and he will be hosting a tent at Wheels, Wings & 5K. Members are welcome to sign-out tickets they can sell to their friends, family, co-workers, but they are responsible to return either the tickets unsold or the money for the tickets to Bruce Wolff by June 30.

Rotary Rendezvous meets June 14!
Rotary Rendezvous has become a highlight of RCL business and social gatherings, and a fun event for current and potential new members. Anyone who is interested in joining our committee, looking for fellowship, or simply a night out, please join us for Rotary Rendezvous on Wednesday, June 14, at Southern Market in Lancaster. Parking is available at the Steinman garage or folks can find side street parking.
Rotary Rendezvous meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
Arrive anytime between 5-5:30pm for drinks and fellowship.

New budgets, will consolidate member dues and lunch costs for greater efficiency
The Board will soon distribute the new budget, but recently President Elect Beth provided a summary of key points and the logic behind them.

Saturday, June 24 should be on every member's must-do list. Our 2023 Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K is shaping up to be a huge event, with record attendance. Be sure to attend the weekly meetings at 11:30 AM every Wednesday. WW5K is now less than four weeks away.
Oaktree Outdoor Advertising has started rotating different WW5K messages on 9 digital billboards for the remaining time before the Festival.
As mentioned, Jamie announced that sponsorships have reached $40,700 on our way to a goal of $50,000. We need to have all sponsorship commitments.
Remember that there are still numerous opportunities for all RCL members to volunteer – including before the event. Contact subcommittee co-chairs Amy Lewis or Jamie Alton. Volunteers are needed in the morning for the 4K as well as during the day for the main event.
REMINDER: Share Your Program Ideas! We welcome interesting speakers, and engaging programs.
Our Club is always looking for ideas to add to the list of potential programs. If you have any ideas for programs, please contact Christine Sable (sableccim@gmail.com) or another member of the Meeting Planning Committee or any Board member, who will pass them along. Both live and virtual (Zoom) speakers are welcome.
The programs the Lancaster Rotary Club offers are important for our club and, with your help and participation, have often been truly phenomenal.

Joy: John & Rachel Grove's newly adopted dog was lost for 11 days. Tuesday night at 3 PM it was caught (gently) in a trap thanks to Carrie from "Find Toby. She is a dog whisperer.
