Committees prepare for major fundraiser, the Wheels & Wings Festival & 5K Run.
Both of our major committees are in full gear this week, as the Club’s biggest fundraiser is less than six weeks away. The Fundraising Committee needs the support of our membership to add significantly more sponsors and volunteers as we get closer to the Saturday, June 24 WW5K. Proceeds support RCL initiatives, but particularly the Summer Youth Experience in partnership with United Way.
This week’s Fundraising agenda will deal with urgent priorities and important updates that all RCL members need to know about different aspects of the event and volunteer signups. We need to nail down sponsorships by June 1, and we’re now slightly less than halfway to our goal of $50,000. Jamie Alton thanks all early sponsors and has an easy way for you and your company to join this list:
Jamie says, “Thanks to everyone who has committed to sponsoring or secured sponsors for WW5K 2023! Our sponsorship total has passed $24,000. Our goal is to reach $50,000 to fund our increased commitment to the Summer Youth Program. If your company's name or your name does not appear above, you can give online through theClub's website. Just select Wheels & Wings and 5K under Reason for Donation."
In the other part of the Farm and Home Center space, the Community Committee will resume discussions of the Summer Youth Experience on the heels of its successful McCaskey Mentoring Program graduation ceremony. The work of this large committee is at the heart of RCL. As announced earlier, an additional $10,000 will be given to the Summer Youth Experience for a total of $30,000 which the United Way will match. There was also a big need for photos of the Summer Youth Experience, according to Chair Joel Skundrich.
Other very important issues handled by this committee include our support of the Refugee Center, Power Packs and coordinating with SDL, and the popular upcoming 4H / Farmers Day / Strawberry Auction now scheduled for May 31.

Rotary Rendezvous meets May 24!
Rotary Rendezvous has become a highlight of RCL business and social gatherings, and a fun event for current and potential new members. Anyone who is interested in joining our committee, looking for fellowship, or simply a night out, please join us for Rotary Rendezvous on Wednesday, May 24, at Southern Market in Lancaster. Parking is available at the Steinman garage or folks can find side street parking.
Rotary Rendezvous meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
Arrive anytime between 5-5:30pm for drinks and fellowship.

Give Prepaid Lunch Tickets to Prospective New Members
This is a great way to invite new members! Crystal has "prepaid" lunch tickets that you can purchase and give to prospective new members when you invite them to a meeting. This way you don't have to worry about paying for their meal when they come or, for that matter, even being present when they come. Lunches are $18.
By now, Saturday, June 24 should be on your must-do list for this summer. Our 2023 Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K is shaping up to be a huge event, with record attendance. Be sure to attend the weekly meetings at 11:30 AM every Wednesday. Our WW5K is now less than six weeks away.
Jamie Alton announced that Oaktree Outdoor Advertising is donating 9 digital billboards for the month before the Festival. WW5K is already featured in Cruise News magazine, the major source of news and car show listings for our region. We will also have a full-page ad as well as high-profile listings in their May-June issue.
As mentioned earlier in this issue, Jamie also announced that sponsorships have reached $24,000 on our way to a goal of $51,000. We need to have all sponsorship commitments by June 1.
To recap our ongoing updates on this huge event: Chip Kirchner previously announced that United Way has matched our increased commitment of $30,000 to the Summer Youth Partnership. Part of this commitment is to create a video of the Summer Youth Experience and will include video from the Wheels & Wings festival. Funded agencies are being invited to ask their staff and youth who benefit from their services to walk the grounds to thank supporters. WW5K will feature WWII warbirds (vintage aircraft) from the Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. There will be rides available on some of the warbirds. To register for a ride, go to: capitalwingwarbirdrides.org.
It’s not too early to reserve Saturday, June 24 for a day of Rotary volunteer service – and family fun!
There will be numerous opportunities for all RCL members to volunteer – including before the event. Contact subcommittee co-chairs Amy Lewis or Jamie Dalton.

Our Club is always looking for ideas to add to the list of potential programs. The programs the Lancaster Rotary Club offers are important for our club and, with your help and participation, have often been truly phenomenal.
