RYLA Student, Youth Community Service Award, Why I Serve, and more.
Lisa Lewis has arranged for our RYLA candidate to tell us about her experience. Thanks to Chip Kirchner for help in securing Elica Perez, rising senior at McCaskey. Elica attending the Rotary District 7390 leadership camp at Messiah College in June. The week long program is for students going into their senior year in high school. Students attending are sponsored by their local Rotary Club.
The five-day Conference is filled with interesting speakers, team-building activities and fun. At the end of the conference, the students vote on the top eight conferees. Seven of the students receive the Lloyd Bollinger Award of $350.
Student Community Service Award
The Lancaster Rotary Club Student Community Service Award(s) will be presented at the August 16, meeting.
The Rotary Club of Lancaster Community Service Awards began in 1973. The Community Awards are handled by the Community Awards Subcommittee.
Selection is based upon four main considerations:
• Contributions to strengthening the community through, preferably, volunteer service;
• Special leadership qualities;
• Ability to achieve outcomes; and
• Any extraordinary effort made by the nominee, and any challenges or obstacles that
were overcome in making these contributions.
The emphasis for award selection is on impactful and meaningful service that fosters community well being in Lancaster County.
Up to four youth recipient(s) may be selected. The awardees will be recognized at the August 16th meeting where they receive a cash gift of $100 and have the opportunity to designate a Rotary check of $100 to a favorite charity.
Why I Serve – Amy Lewis
A new program in the Lancaster Rotary Club is letting our most active members tell us what Rotary means to them and why they serve. The first person to do so is Amy Lewis, from our Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee chair.
Committee Chair Orientation
Before our regular meeting, there will be an orientation for committee chairs. At the meeting there will be a report on the orientation and, perhaps, some committee reports.
Board of Directors Report To The Membership.
The Board of Directors will report on their recent meeting and any upcoming changes. This is in an effort to keep full transparency in the inner working of our club.
New Member Orientation Committee will meet.
