The Strawberry Auction will be at 12:15 PM June 8th.
Since 1956, the Lancaster Rotary Club has sponsored the 4-H Strawberry Roundup. This gives Rotarians a chance to meet young future farmers of Lancaster County. After judging is completed, the Grand Champion's and Reserve Champion's strawberries will be auctioned off to support 4-H programs. The winning 4-H members all receive a portion of the bid amount. The auction will be at 12:15 PM, before the start of the regular meeting.

"No Zoom in June"
The Pandemic has certainly been an adjustment for all of us. For several years, we have used Zoom to attend the meetings and it has helped us "see one another". Thankfully, our weekly in -person member attendance has increased. In order for the Rotary Club of Lancaster to get back to some sort of normalcy, the Board has decided on "No Zoom in June". We would like to have in-person meetings only and see all of you, our members, back and seated at the tables at the Farm & Home Center. We most certainly will enjoy the conversations with one another (in-person) as we had prior to the Pandemic.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology: An Update
Pedro Rivera, president of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, began serving in this role on October 1, 2020. He had prior served as Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Education.
In 2014, President Rivera was honored by the White House as a Champion of Change for his efforts to transform urban education with his holistic approach to student success – one of ten recipients nationwide to receive the prestigious honor. Rivera serves as the Past President of the Board of Directors for the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), a nonpartisan organization of public officials who head state departments of elementary and secondary education.
During his time as Secretary of Education, President Rivera engaged with educators, administrators, parents and students, as well as business and industry leaders, higher education officials and others to guide the department’s work on issues that were important to the future of PA. Through initiatives like PA Future Ready Index and Pennsylvania’s Every Student Succeeds Act, and Postsecondary Attainment goals, he has demonstrated his commitment to educational equity, a commitment that is foundational to the mission of our College.
"My whole career has been focused on serving students from underrepresented communities and providing opportunities for first generation college graduates, high school graduates. Being able to engage first hand with an institution and to engage with faculty and staff and students who are focused on the same things that I believe in made me think, ‘This was an opportunity of a lifetime.’ And being able to do so from my home in Lancaster was the icing on the cake."
President Rivera is a first-generation college graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Penn State University and a Master Degree from Cheyney University. President Rivera served as the superintendent of the School District of Lancaster, as well as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and executive director for the School District of Philadelphia.

Would you like to volunteer with the Rotary Citizenship Program? If so, please follow the steps outlined below to officially register.
The Rotary Citizenship Program helps adult English learners in IU13’s Citizenship classes practice for their upcoming U.S. Citizenship test. As a volunteer, you will join a Citizenship class remotely via Zoom and be placed in a breakout room for one hour with a student and help prepare them for their Citizenship test.
Volunteer opportunities are available each Wednesday morning and Wednesday evening from May 25th to June 15th, 2022
Step 1
Send an email to Jane Myers at jane@literacysuccess.org indicating that you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the Rotary Citizenship Program. Be sure to include your full name and phone along with dates and times you are available for a 10-minute phone paperwork session with her; Jane will respond to confirm your meeting time. During the phone call, she will collect the information needed to officially register you as a volunteer. She will conduct the required criminal background check for you free of charge.
Step 2
Once you have made initial contact with Jane Myers, sign up for the dates/times you are available on our Volunteer Sign-Up Google Sheet. If you have trouble making your selection, please email josh_mcmanness@iu13.org for help. There are two tabs at the bottom of the volunteer sign-up sheet, one tab for morning and one for evening. Please sign up for as many dates/times as you are able. You can also sign-up as a “Back-Up” to be on-call in case another volunteer cannot take part in a session for which they registered.
You will need to watch the video, register as a volunteer, and sign up as a volunteer by May 23rd.
Step 4
After you have completed the volunteer registration process with Jane Myers and have registered for the time slots you are available, you are ready to start volunteering in this program. Click on the Zoom links below for the morning and evening classes at the start time. Please be punctual. Keep track of the hours you spend volunteering because Jane Myers will contact you at the end of each month to collect this information.

Please join them to make our Club's signature community event and fundraiser a roaring success this year. Now they need volunteers to 1) collect items for grab bags and the raffle, 2)do marketing at car shows, 3) develop online registration for vendors and attendees, 4) develop the 4K, and 5) seek sponsorships.
