The YMCA of York New American Welcome Center
Jose A. Santiago has been with the welcome center since Nov 2017 as chair of advisory committee, until hired as Director of the center March 19, 2018. Santiago has a long history and commitment in York and represents the community he serves in many ways.
Santiago currently serves Chairman of the Housing Authority of York, RACY Redevelopment Authority County of York, WITF TV and Radio Advisory Committee, 2020 State Census Commissioner for York County, DreamWrights Board, Chair of Latinos Unidos of York and Co-Founder and active in many other agencies that serve as a conduit for his work. He also shows his support in many community committees and advisory committees throughout York and York County. He is a member of Latino Vision Association in Lancaster Pa.
Santiago Graduated from the York City School District, was a member of the US Army 1984 thru 1998, attended injection molding school and received Plastics Engineering Degree with a Master Molder at RJG injection molding school Traverse City Michigan in 2003. Completed many courses including robotics technician training and programing throughout his career in the plastics industry.
Awards: Martin Luther King Image Award 2019, Downtown First Awards Most Outstanding Individual in York City 2019. Featured in YOCO Connect Magazine, YRK Magazine and La Voz Latina Central Pa for his community work.
He is married to Joyce Santiago for 20 years and has 5 children and 7 grandchildren.
He loves fishing and sports. His favorite football team is Kansas City Chiefs. (NFL Champs he points out)

Rotary Foundation
Rotary has taken a leadership role for several decades to eradicate polio worldwide. That long term commitment is proof that Rotarians stick to the job until we’re satisfied the job is done.
Each year, members of the Rotary Club of Lancaster send in contributions in May and June to try and meet our annual goal of $30,000. Right now, we’re about half way to meeting that goal. You can do your part by contributing to either Polio Plus, the International Rotary Foundation’s annual fund, or make a legacy gift to the Rotary Club of Lancaster’s Foundation (a 501.c.3).

New Program Ideas Wanted
Tom Gemmill can use recommendations for new programs. If you have any ideas, please contact Tom at tomgemmill.tg@gmail.com. The programs we have are truly phenomenal. Kudos to Tom for such great programs and for all of the effort he puts into tracking down and scheduling these speakers and getting their programs summaries and bios. Great job Tom!

Wheels and Wings Coming July 24!
Our 2021 Wheels and Wings Festival & 5K will be held Saturday, July 24, at Lancaster Airport. It starts with a 5K run through Brethren Village at 7:30 am. The car show and fly-in will run from 9 am to 2 pm. We’ve confirmed that we’ll have a Southern Airways Express plane on display along with the Liberty Warbirds’ Huey helicopter, and we’ll be giving away (as door or raffle prizes) two round-trip tickets to all of Southern’s destinations from Lancaster: Washington-Dulles, Pittsburgh, and Nantucket!
Wheels and Wings is now our Club’s only major fundraiser. It provides the funding for the Summer Youth Experience and all of our local and global service projects. So far we have $6,000 in sponsorship commitments. All Club members are asked to help in two ways: 1) Become a sponsor or ask your business contacts and friends to do so. Donations to the event can be made online at www.lancasterrotary.org/donate/. Contact Jamie Alton at jalton141@comcast.net with any sponsorship questions. 2) Plan to volunteer the day of the event. We’ll need all hands on deck! More details on volunteer opportunities will be forthcoming closer to the big day.

A Message Regarding Returning to Physical Meetings
Fellow Rotarians,
They say that patience is a virtue, but sometimes it takes way too long. We have received many emails and inquiries as a Board asking when we will return to our physical meetings to the Farm & Home Center. While we are all anxious to get back to a bit of normalcy, it is important that we keep everyone safe. The Board is continuing to evaluate the risk level in our area.
According to CovidActNow.org, the risk level in Lancaster County stands at Very High Risk with 30 new cases per 100K people, positive test rate of 9.6 %, 86% ICU capacity in use and only 23.3% of the population is fully vaccinated as of April 26th.
The Vaccinate Lancaster site at Park City Center is open by appointment to anyone age 16 or older. It has been unable to keep all appointment openings filled. The Board continues to assess the positivity rate and other pertinent details to determine when it is safe to return.
Please be patient just a little longer.

Joy: Sam Mecum is honored to present Rotary Past President Bob Minney (2001-2) for induction into the J. P. McCaskey Athletic Hall of Fame at the Friday, October 22nd football game between McCaskey and Manheim Township.
Joy: Stephen Gunzenhauser shot a hole-in-one at Meadia Heights GC on Tuesday.
