ROTARIAN INOCULATES CHILDREN AGAINST POLIO Rotarian Bob Phillips, at a regularly‐scheduled meeting of the Rhinebeck Rotary Club on Monday, January 11 th , recounted his trip to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, West Africa, where he was part of an international team of Rotarians dedicated to inoculating local children against polio. Mr. Phillips, a Wells Fargo financial advisor, helped administer an oral vaccine to nearly 200 children under five years of age last December in the West African region. Thanks to the work of Rotary International, and teams such as the one Mr. Phillips was a part of, polio has largely been eliminated in the world, with the exception of several war‐torn nations in the Middle East. Mr. Phillips also attended the West Africa Project Fair during his team’s mission where he became acquainted with local traditions and met with area officials. Mr. Phillips informed Rotarians that Cote d’Ivoire, a former French colony, has a population of nearly 24 million people and is primarily an agricultural country, exporting mainly cocoa and coffee. Rotary is a local, national, and international service organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of others through a variety of service projects. The Rhinebeck Club meets every Monday at 12:15 pm at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck.
