On Monday June 1st, 2009, the Rotary club of Timmins-Porcupine made a donation of 1500lbs of food to the Timmins Food Bank.

Last month, President-Elect Darren Taylor split the club into two teams.   He then set forth a challenge:  The team that collected less food by June 1st would have to cook supper for the other team!  Immediately, an inner club rivalry started and members begun collecting food from friends, coworkers and family members!

Rick Young, President of the Timmins Food bank was very thankful as many of the food items donated where items that they really needed right now.  At present, the Food Bank has 1157 families registered with their service.

When asked why he wanted to support the food bank, President Elect  Darren Taylor said "One of Rotary's 4 mandates is to help with Health and Hunger.  Most people don't realize how much hunger we have right here in Timmins.  We just had to do something to help out"

At a recent meeting, a joint venture between the Rotary Club and the Food bank was announced.  Details of this event, which will be held later this year will be made public in the upcoming months.
