The Mahoning-Shenango Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals gave the 2008 Outstanding Civic Organization Award to the Canfield Rotary Club at a luncheon  held on November 11th to celebrate the 18th Annual National Philanthropy Day. Bill Hendricks, accepting the award on behalf of the club, gave a moving tribute to the spirit of Rotary and the energy and leadership of Canfield Rotarians.
There were more than a dozen Canfield Rotarians in attendance, including the senior staff of Farmers National Bank of Canfield, which was recognized as this year's Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist. Frank Paden accepted the award on behalf of the Bank.

A striking feature of this year's awards was how many of the winners had a connection to Rotary. Rotary brings together people from the community who truly believe in giving back to the community, and those people routinely make a significant difference in their communities. Sometimes it is through Rotary projects; other times, it is through other community efforts. In all cases, the motto of Service above Self is clearly evident.

If you would like to read our application for the award, it is posted as a download file (bottom of the third column) on the homepage of our website (www.CanfieldRotary.org).

You may remember that the Canfield High School Interact Club, under the direction of Sieglinde Warren, won this award three years ago in the category of Outstanding Young Philanthropist.

This is yet another indication of the quality of our club and the significance of our club's accomplishments.
