The Students Connecting Through International Service conducted their annual trip to Sonora Mexico  during the week of April 22 through Aprio 26th to deliver schools supplies, sports equipment, space heaters, tooth brushes, tooth paste and much needed everyday supplies to the students of the Juan Escutia school in Sasabe, Mexico. The students were chaparoned by Tammie Epley, Principal; Eizabeth Ness, Barb Weist and our rotarians Mary Helen Bosquez, Judy Johnson and Susan Pryce

We drove to the U.S. Border at Sasabe, Arizona, and prepared for our party.  We decorated the party space with helium balloons, got the 240 frosted donuts and juice boxes ready, and blew up 150 balloons for one of our games.  We were so worried when someone stopped by to tell us the Mexican principal had gotten confused and thought the party was the next day, but we were all thrilled when we saw the huge number of Mexican students and their moms crossing the border to celebrate with us.

It was so fun!  The students played "Musical Chairs" and an exciting game where you try to pop the balloons tied to other kids' ankles before they can pop yours.  Everyone loved the donuts, a rare treat for the Mexican children.  Giving out the school supplies was by far our kids' (and our) favorite part.  We loved seeing all of the huge smiles on our new amigos' faces!  They were very, very appreciative.

After we cleaned up and thanked the wonderful border officials for all of their help,  The  SCTIS students drove to Tucson and toured the University of Arizona with two college students, Marilyn and Daniella.  They learned so many interesting things about this big, beautiful university, and about majors, scholarships, degrees and careers.  It was a great week!
