Rotary Donates Pallets of Pillows

We recently received the good news that Cushing has a pending sale for their empty factory so we are speeding up the deliveries to reduce the inventory before the building sells.  Last week and this week, pallets of cases of pillows are being delivered to:

1.     The REST Shelter on West Lawrence.  REST provides emergency shelter.

2.     The Salvation Army Women and Children Shelter on West Lawrence (we provided baby blankets and strollers to them in the past) (emergency shelter)

3.     Newman Family Services on North Ravenswood (residency for special needs)

4.     Franciscan House – emergency shelter

5.     Hesed House,

Brian Burke (of Cushing) told me that the receiving organizations were clearly excited and grateful for the donations.  I think they might have been surprised by the volume of the deliveries.  He said our Rotary members should pat ourselves on the back once in a while because we are doing a very good thing.  A Board member friend from Newman Family Services called me very, very excited.  She had a call from the staff person at Newman and said they had all these boxes of pillows and they were so excited and will put them to good use.

The unusual blue paper sheets are being delivered to two low income groups who like to do sewing projects:  the ladies at the Mirium building of Mercy Housing Lakefront and a group of sewers at the Salvation Army in Evanston.  Those blue paper sheets are also being used by the Temple Shalom for tablecloths at their weekly free dinners for needy in their neighborhood.
