I'd like to hear from the rest of you...

Anna Henn reports that her husband  Ron does not have prostrate cancer which was erroneously reported at the last meeting. Besides his enlarged prostrate, he has shingles on his left foot and it is very painful.  His foot is swollen and he can barely get his shoes on.  Then he fell on his right (the bad one) knee and now he thinks there is something wrong with it.   Anna reports  "All we do is go to doctors.  From the Urologist, to the Dermatologist, to the Ophthalmologist and to the Orthopedic Specialist.  When we complete the round we start all over again.  What wonderful golden years".

I'm still working.  For how long is anyone's guess.  Right now I believe the end of July will be my retirement date, but this could change today.  I'll keep you posted.  Anna

FROM BOBBI TAYLOR

Originally from Pennsylvania, I was born and raised in Erie. In 1964 my family moved to Mendota, Illinois.  I attended Northern Illinois University received my degree in Education,  I went on to receive advanced degrees in School Administration from Illinois State and Loyola University of Chicago. I currently serve Schiller Park School District 81 as Superintendent. I have been in education since 1980, first as a teacher then a principal.  In 2000 I was asked to take the position of superintendent after having served the district as principal since 1991.   Although close to retirement I love the work I do and look forward everyday to helping people be the best they can be. We have been successful in meeting the standards of  the No Child Left Behind Law by making Adequate Yearly Progress.  As an organization we celebrate the success of our student, because of the special challenges they face given  the culturally diversity of our population.

Approximately thirty percent of our children are Limited in English Proficiency, twenty-nine different nationalities are represented in this group. Our student success is a result of their diligence as well as the work of the supportive educators who support them as they meet the challenges of learning content as well as the English language.

On the personal side, I am married and have three wonderful children, six grandchildren, a dog, and seven brothers and sisters, our family always has something to celebrate. We enjoy out time together at our home in Dune Acers, Indiana; it is located a just a short walk to the beach.   I was fortunate to have been a member of philanthropic clubs and organizations for most of my adult life.  I was one of the first woman Rotarians initiated by the Marseilles Rotary Club, it is indeed a privilege  to be part of the Chicago O'Hare Rotary. I look forward to being active in assisting the Chicago O'Hare Rotary in meeting their fund raising goals.

Yoshio announced his "retirement" at the April 27th meeting.  His Gotoh Distributing Company is closing.  But, Yoshio, can never retire.  He'll be moving into Eldon Tracy's office to conduct his new venture.

Ross Jacobs announced that John Conway will be joining him in a new air cargo venture (Ross - please give us more details).

Former member John DeKeyser was at our meeting a couple of weeks ago and reported he sold his company and is starting a completely new venture in Cape Coral, Florida.

John Moran is "finally" back from his winter condo in Florida.  Now for the summer, he'll be spending time in his Lake Geneva condo (lots of golfing).

Richard Bertucco took a "mini" group to the Triton College Culinary school.  Next time, our group will plan to go in October or November for a better turnout.

Jim Markham is at his summer home in New Hampshire.  He's going to visit an old "flame".  Get details from Dave Woodcock.

Jim Straus's  hip replacement surgery is scheduled for August.

Sorry to learn Lara Uselding has left our club.  Her traveling schedule just does not permit her to come to our meetings.  She had no idea she would be traveling so much.  We'll miss her.

The Spachman's, the Otto's, the Yamada's plus Barb & Seymour went to see the WaaMu 75th Jubilee performance at Northwestern University.  It was outstanding - great costumes, great dancing,  singing, etc. Prior to this production, we had dinner at Dave's Italian Kitchen in Evanston.

Here's the scoop on our Rotary spouses.  Terrie Yamada teaches Japanese to American students at the College of DuPage part time.  She also private tutors twice a week.  She says she learns a lot from her students especially about our different cultures.  Mitsuo and Terrie have one single son (and he's 6' 1") who works for Rotary International.  Kentaro (their son) is looking for a bride (or at least the parents hope so because they want grandchildren).  Terrie advises she's been married 31 years and Mitsuo has been married for 33 years (it's really 33 years).  Mitsuo and Terrie met at work in Japan.  Both of them enjoy movies (except horror movies) and see about 60 movies a year.  Mitsuo says his wife is a very good cook and her specialty is "Yakitori".  Their family lives in Japan but their nephew is arriving next week with his wife for a week's stay.

Bev Otto is a Professor in the Teacher Education Department at Northeastern Illinois University located on the north side of Chicago.  Bev loves to write and last year her book was published titled LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD and 4,000 copies were sold.  What an accomplishment!  However, she translates that into making 50 cents per hour.

Sue Spachman is "retired" but still substitute teaches.  Her daughter Sara is an expert quilter and Sue, Sara, and Sue's mother bond weekly quilting.

Our president, Yoshio, sure has computer and e-mail problems.  His computer is more down than up.  He never answers my e-mails (now I know why).
