After almost four years of getting to the shelves for those who can’t, the Rotary Club of Parry Sound’s grocery shopping program has come to an end.
“Thanks to the MacGregor family and Sobeys staff for their outstanding service,” said Rotary president Rick Cain. “Your dedication exemplifies the Rotary motto of service above self.”
What began as a partnership between Rotary and Sobeys to help fulfil the grocery lists for those stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic transformed into a grocery assistance program, supporting those unable to walk the aisles themselves or foot the rising cost of groceries.
As Rotary’s program ends, the West Parry Sound District Community Support Services will be ensuring continued support by taking over home delivery of groceries for those without the ability to grocery shop themselves.
To further assist those in need this holiday season, Sobeys is undertaking a food drive.
“As the MacGregor family and Sobeys staff transition, community support remains crucial for the ongoing success of these initiatives. Wishing them a joyful holiday season and a prosperous new year,” wrote Rotary’s chair of fundraising, Linda West, in a release. “Their legacy of generosity will endure in Parry Sound for years to come.”
