Community Service

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Parry Sound Community Service Committee

Rotary supports community, International and vocational projects.  In Parry Sound we raise funds through events.  The Rotary Club of Parry Sound currently supports many individuals in the community that have special requests for services and equipment.

Our club's program for kids, called Helping Kids Play is providing funds for registration, uniforms or equipment a child might need to participate in the activity of their choice.  Canadian Tire in Parry Sound has been our champion helping us help kids.  The pamphlet for this program is included under the 'Downloads' for this committee.

There are people in the community who need assistance: wheelchairs, walkers, stair glides, medical aids, and transportation to medical appointments.  Rotary is there.

Working with the Salvation Army  we give turkey hampers at Christmas time.  Annually, we give over 100 hampers to families in need.

Parry Sound Rotary has supported the Rotary Atoms Hockey Team for many years.

Rotary is supporting the Seguin Rose Point Trail upgrades, including a lookout called Rotary Outlook and benches.  For our 50th Annicervsary on Dec 6, 1961 we helped create the Rotary Algonquin Fitness Trail and we are currently investigating joining this with the Rosepoint Trail.

Mandate:
(The Committee hasn’t had an updated mandate yet. We’re planning to meet soon to establish one. I’m using the one from most probably more than 10 years ago, which I believe still valid.)

Community Service is to improve the quality of life for those who live within the club’s locality or municipality. Paul Harris and the Chicago club undertook the first Community Service project in 1907 when they erected a comfort station near city hall. They realized that fellowship and mutual self-interest were not enough to keep busy professionals meeting each week. Reaching out to improve the lives of the less fortunate proved to be an even greater motivator.

Within Community Service there are four areas of concern:
  • Human Development
  • Community Development
  • Environmental Protection
  • Partners in Service

  • Help individuals, Lakeland Long Term Care or WPSHC in medical equipments
