Program Guest Speaker:  Bob Hunter Loomex Group
Bob Hunter brought greetings from the Rotary Club of Port Hope.  The Kawartha Lakes Municipal Airport is owned by the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Loomex Group is contracted to manage the airport along with the airport in Peterborough.  The airport consists of 168 acres on Hwy 35 and has 3500 feet of paved runway suitable for any general aviation aircraft.   Even a military Hercules plane could land at our airport.  There is also a grass runway.  There are 2 buildings plus hangars plus paved parking areas for planes.  Eric B. Robinson an aircraft maintenance company is located at the airport.
Planes can land day or night as they can operated the runway lights themselves and the fuel is self-serve.  The Restaurant is owned by Kim Traynor who will offer Rotarians a free butter tart when visiting.  The Fly Canadian Flight School is located at the airport but their primary business is training foreign pilots.  Typically those pilots are here in our community for over a year before heading home to become commercial pilots.  A 2006 impact study noted the airport provides 5.5 Million to the local economy and is crucial for emergency services.  Ornge medical aircraft land at the airport 10-15 times per month as this is the only airport between Minden and Peterborough.  The airport can also be a boon in recruiting new doctors as many doctors have their own planes.  The airport currently runs at a breakeven but Loomex is looking at some revenue opportunities with the Municipality.  Expansion is currently limited as they have no municipal sewers or water.  There are currently about 40 planes at the airport with 20,000 movements per year. Bob was thanked by Marcus Tully for his presentation.

50/50 Draw was won by Erin Coons but she did not find the joker.  The pot of $164.50 lives on.

The meeting was closed by President John asking members to “be a gift to the world”.
