President John is in Regina so Past President Dan brought the meeting to order and we sang the National Anthem and Rotary Grace.

Guests: Diane Steven, Manager of Kawartha Lakes Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre

Door Prize:  The draw and the recipient have slipped the iron grip of my memory all too easily, and my notes on the event were abysmal.

Humour:  Derek told us a story about a dying man’s need to make sure his customers were served. Much to the chagrin of his heirs.

Announcements:

Directors meeting will be on the 21st at 8:30 a.m. at the KLPS Offices.

Duty Roster-next week:
Sergeants: Cathy Danbrook and Jill Sadler

Greeter/prize: Michelle Gage

Finemaster/thanker: John Hunter

Humourist:  Charlie Currie

Finemaster  Rohan collected from many happy Rotarians

Bert is happy that his daughter has moved back to Ontario
Brad caught a 4 pound bass
Charlie’s granddaughter graduated with a 93.4% average.
Lynda is happy to see our guest, happy to have attended the Woodville Family Festival and very happy to be going to Newfoundland.
Danielle is happy that her daughter Olivia will be attending the next olympic games playing rugby
Past Pres Dan was fined for interrupting the fine master’s performance of his duties. An untimely lesson on proper pronunciation.  Can you say Newfoundland like a proper Newfie?
And almost everybody else paid a fine for lollygagging at the construction site on Lindsay St.

Program:
Diane Steven has been the manager of the Kawartha Lakes Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre since its inception in 2002.  The KLSBEC, belonging to a network of 57 Small Business Enterprise Centres across the Province, provides small business resources and information, consultation with business leaders, market research, seminars, workshops and networking events to small business, business start up entrepreneurs as well as sponsoring hight school business plan competitions and youth programs in schools.
One statistic relative to students entrepreneurs is that about 40% of youth involved in the “Summer Companies” program, go on  or continue to run their own businesses in one form or another.
The Provincial Ministry of Economic Development has ear marked 23 $5000 grants for small starter  companies in the City of Kawartha Lakes. To date, only 7 have been allotted.
Diane also welcomes volunteer mentors to the program.  If you are interested or know of someone who might benefit from an association with the KLSBEC, call Diane.
The CKL is a large area that will support a diverse group of business, some of which are law, construction, photography, multimedia, beverage, equestrian, landscape and a balloon company.

Rohan ably thanked our speaker on behalf of the club.

50/50:  Dave Harvey’s ticket won but he did not draw the joker. The pot lives yet another week with only 14 cards left.

Weekly Thought:
Past President Dan left us with this thought from T.S. Eliot.
“In a minute there is time for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.”

There being no other business for the good of Rotary, the meeting was adjourned.
