Deliver to Polito Ford before end of business Friday. At worst, bring the $$ and stubs to the meeting next week. Three weeks until Rotanza !!

The Rotary meeting scheduled for Monday May 2nd will now be held at the Lindsay Exhibition Grounds, on Thursday May 5th. This is the setup and decorations for Rotanza and the bulk of the preparations will be completed Thursday.  It will be a working meeting.

Sharon Chambers reported that this weekend will be the R.Y.L.A. (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) weekend for students in our district.  It will be held in Orillia and she expects that it will be an amazing experience for all involved. There are three students from our high schools participating as well as three former participants who are going as ‘leaders’.  The goal of the exercise is to help develop skills in leadership, problem solving and social interaction for students who attend.

April 28th is the Chiefs Pasta luncheon at the Armoury.

Happy Bucks:
Happy Bucks were collected by Fine master Ron Cork.
John Hagarty is happy to be back from a week at Disney. Fast Pass and GPS were helpful in his family’s enjoyment.  Thanks to Dan for the lead to a good restaurant and, “Mickey” speaks!  John also put in a scooter buck as he is heading to Thunder Bay for  OACP meetings.
Grandpa John Bennett says BOLO (be on the look out) for his 16 year old grand daughter who just got her beginner’s driving licence.
Erin is happy that her son’s hockey is finished for another season and hopeful that snow is finished too.  Erin is also happy that Lindsay This Week have done an awesome job with advertising for Rotanza; Kawartha Business Equipment did a great job printing posters that were expertly and artfully designed by Greg Evan’s brother Sean. Thanks to all.
Rohan is happy to congratulate Jason on ten years of Rotary service.
Teresa had to put in a scooter buck along with Greg, Christine and Gary.
Bert is happy to celebrate that RMH has finished it’s accreditation with a 99.6% result.  That is separate from the recent announcement that the Emergency Dept. was recently ranked #1
Bert also needs a partner to work with him to supply a men’s/women’s pair of bicycles for the silent auction at Rotanza.

Bernie had the lone sad buck. He went to the Jays opener at the ‘Dome’.  It wasn’t good.

50/50 Draw was won by Bert who netted $5 by drawing the 5 of clubs.

Today’s Guest speaker

None other than David Harvie, (the man with a trunkful of door prizes), to speak today about Rotary Foundation and it’s many facets.
When? 1917, started by Arch C. Klumph with a donation of $26.50 US, for the purpose of doing good in the world. The first gift endowed by the foundation was $500 to the Crippled Children’s fund (now the Easter Seals Organization) David explained that it is not difficult to get involved with the foundation. There are several levels to which donations may be made.  A Benefactor is a person who arranges to make a posthumous donation of $1000 US to the Endowment Fund. A Sustaining Member is one who commits to donate $100 US to the Annual Fund every year, and a Paul Harris Fellow is one who donates $1000US to the foundation.
David then recognized our newest Paul Harris Fellow, Dr. Bert Lauwers.  Bert received a certificate, medallion and pin.
Further donations are recognized with a unique pin signifying multiple donations of $1000 U.S.
Today, Rohan Wijesinghe is +2, Dom Fox is +3 and John Hunter is +4, and each received their pins today.
The practice of our club is to allow for ‘matching’ donations.  At the end of the year, all the donations from members are tallied and each individual’s donation is bolstered by an amount from the club.  The amount varies depending on the generosity of the club members making the donations.
David awarded a prize today (from his trunk) and Bernie was the lucky winner of inflatable toast.
Thanks to David (and the secret elders) for the presentation.
....and the meeting was adjourned.

Your scribe,
Jim Mackey
