A long time Rotarian will be sadly missed

He was the high school sweetheart and husband of Shirley (nee Pitts 1934-2008). Adored father of Karen, Jane (Shayne), John (Sara) and Mike (Summer) and proud grandfather of Marian, Brenna, Wyatt, William, Thomas and Fiona. Dear brother of George (Anne), the late Jack (Gloria) and the late Janice (Ralph Burkholder) and brother in law to Phil and Barb Arrowsmith. Fondly remembered by a large extended family who gather at two annual family picnics begun by Bob and Shirley over 30 years ago. Although Bob and Shirley lived and raised their family in Toronto, they maintained many treasured and lifelong friendships in Lindsay. After an accelerated education at Victoria P.S. and Lindsay Collegiate, Bob entered the University of Toronto at age 17 where he became an active member of Sigma Chi, and completed his B.Comm. in 1954. He became a Chartered Accountant in 1958. Following that he served as comptroller for the Toronto Transit Commission. He served as Secretary-Treasurer and Director of Charterhouse Canada Limited from 1963-1968. He was a Director at A.E. Ames from 1971-1979 and President in 1980. He was Vice Chairman of Burns Fry Ltd. (now BMO Nesbitt Burns) from 1982 to 1994. He was deeply respected in the investment industry and upheld the tradition of honor and integrity in all his endeavors. He served as Director on boards including Repap, Public Storage, Cadillac Fairview and the OPSEU Pension Fund. Bob lived his life with conviction and passion, and along with Shirley, was known for his generosity to many individuals and associations including Ross Memorial Hospital and Trinity College School, where he also served on the board and finance committee. Locally he served as chair of the Lindsay Police Services Board and with the Rotary Club. He and Shirley were members and supporters of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church while in Toronto and of Cambridge Street Baptist Church since their return to Lindsay in 1996. A man of great wisdom and character, he was admired by his business partners and revered by his family. He left a rich legacy of examples and life lessons to his children and grandchildren. Most importantly, Bob lived and loved life to the fullest. He whistled while he worked. His laugh was loud, his golf bets daring and his jokes were often outrageous.Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Graham Loeb and to caregiver Sherri McPherson for their expertise, friendship and support. Visitation at the Mackey Funeral Home on Thursday June 23rd, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., 33 Peel St. Lindsay, and funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday June 24th. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
