Make-Ups: Earning 3 make-ups each at the District Conference in Mexico were Pat DiRosa, Cindy Rose, Bob Balentine, Phil, Peter, and Linda Wells. Bob Balentine received an additional make-up by attending a meeting of the District Foundation.
 
Sunshine:
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.
 
Ralph Padovano thinks of us often but is unable to attend meetings. We miss you, Ralph!

Nancy S. was happy to announce the birth of her grand-daughter’s twin boys.

Steve F. was happy for his daughter’s birthday but sad that she’s already 18.

Guest Rotarians John Adams (Wyckoff/Midland Park) and Larry Bogert (Northern Valley) explained the club’s responsibilities toward our Youth Exchange Student who will be arriving in the U.S. from Spain in August.
 
She will be a student at Pascack Hills High School for the school year 2015-16. It will be up to our club to see that her stay is a meaningful one.  
 
Our 50/50 Cash Raffle will be here before you know it. Drawing is set for Friday, June 5. Each member is asked to take responsibility for selling 5 tickets. FEWER THAN HALF OF OUR TICKETS HAVE BEEN SOLD SO FAR. ONLY 4 WEEKS REMAIN. IF WE ARE TO HAVE THE MONEY WE NEED TO SUPPORT THE CAUSES WE CARE ABOUT, WE MUST GET ALL 300 TICKETS SOLD!
 
Ryan Cangialosi reminds us that the Nikki Franco Scholarship Fund Beefsteak is set for Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the evening at the Park Ridge Elks. This is the same date as the Park Ridge Town Picnic. It will take place between the picnic and the fireworks, but will also be in a prime location to view the fireworks. The $70 cost includes unlimited beefsteak from Nightingales, French fries, salad, beer/wine/soda, and dessert from the Cakeboss. Checks should be made payable to 'Park Ridge Rotary Charitable Foundation'.

Our Third Annual 5K is scheduled for Sunday, September 20! Mark your calendar and begin to think about friends and family to invite out and businesses who can be great sponsors for our growing event. At the installation dinner in June for President-Elect Vlad and his slate of officers, every member will be provided with a folder containing all the information needed in regards to the 5K and signing up runners and sponsors.

On Thursday evening, May 7, Park Ridge Rotarians welcomed guest speaker Amanda Missey to Domani. Her subject was the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative located in Hackensack since its founding in 2009.
 
 
The mission of BVMI, Inc. is to provide free primary medical care and, where possible, referrals to specialty care for working, low-income Bergen County residents who have no health insurance. Through their work they hope to improve the health and well-being of those being served, reduce the use of hospital emergency services, and serve as a model of improving access to healthcare through volunteerism.
 
BVMI is a licensed, ambulatory healthcare site. Patients are seen by appointment five days a week. BVMI provides 6,000 medical visits for 1,000 patients annually.
 
A team of 65 volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals provide medical care for BVMI’s patients. More than 300 specialists in private practice in the county have agreed to see patients at no charge.
 
BVMI does not receive any government funding, is not reimbursed by insurance companies and does not charge patients for services provided. BVMI relies entirely on contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations.
