Program:
On February 6, 2022 on a virtual meeting via Zoom, Park Ridge Rotary members welcomed Andrea Ibarra and Eda Tekeoghi of Table to Table.
Table to Table is a community-based food rescue program that collects fresh, wholesome food that would otherwise the wasted and delivers it to community agencies that serve the hungry in Northern New Jersey. Their focus is to provide fresh, healthy food, such as produce, whole grains, lean protein and prepared meals.
As of April 2021 Table to Table is supported by a mobil app (I-Rescue) that mobilizes volunteers at the touch of a screen. Through I-Rescue, volunteers pick up surplus food from supermarkets, restaurants, caterers, and immediately deliver it to food pantries, group homes, and assistance organizations that feed the hungry in Bergen County.
In 2020 they rescued enough food for 38 million meals! In 2021 they calculated 627 rescues (128,598 pounds of food) from 53 food donors and for 54 recipient agencies. They noted that one of our club members, Brian Landy, has already completed one rescue, garnering 1,296 pounds of food for 1,080 meals.
Our club has been invited to experience to join them as local food rescue heroes. There was much enthusiasm for this connection, and it will be discussed at the next Board meeting.
