Birthdays and Anniversaries: Celebrating birthdays during September were Pat DiRosa (9/20), Stuart Gold (9/21), Steve Hopper (9/22) and Whitney deBordenave (9/24). Pat and Joe DiRosa (9/22) and Steve and Ann Hopper (9/14) celebrated anniversaries as well.
 
Sunshine: Bob Balentine recently broke his arm and Cindy Rose will be undergoing knee surgery soon. We wish them both a speedy recovery.
 
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.
 
Happiness:

Most happy dollars went toward the highly successful 5K Run and the hard work of all those responsible for making it work.
 
Linda H. was happy for the positive response she’s received from the survey of runners she conducted after the race.
 
Cindy R. was happy to have tickets available for this year’s Lord and Taylor sales event.
 
Jan D. was happy to have run the 5K with his daughter and grandson and to have come in 1st place in his age group.
 
Bob B. was happy that it was his LEFT arm that he broke.
 
Stuart G. was happy to have had a wonderful birthday dinner with his children and grand children.
 
Ray F. was happy to have gotten a medal in the 5K.
 
Phil W. was happy for the success of the 5K and for Linda Hanlon being named this year’s Vocational Service Award winner for District 7490.

Dick Beattie announced that the District’s Gift of Life Program is looking to our Club and Allendale for a family to host a young child coming to the U.S. on October 7 for surgery. The responsibilities of a host family, besides the obvious housing and meals, extend essentially to transportation. There are, typically, quite a few trips back and forth to the designated hospital.  The host family receives enormous support from the GOL staff throughout the hosting process. The average hosting timeframe is about 3 months. Occasionally, complications arise and the time commitment can grow significantly. Give some thought to hosting. You will be working and interacting with some amazing people The rewards are hard to put into words. Contact Dick, a previous host, for further information.
 
DG Peter Wells has announced that Linda Hanlon was picked to receive the Vocational Service Award for District 7490 at the New Jersey Vocational Assembly and encouraged all to attend the event. This year’s Vocational Assembly will take place on the afternoon and evening of Tuesday, October 6th, at the Pines Manor, 2085 Route 27, Edison, New Jersey 08817. Cindy Rose described this year’s Lord & Taylor’s Fundraising Shopping Event being held at The Fashion Center in Ridgewood from 9:00 AM until 11:00 PM on SATURDAY, November 14. The club receives ALL proceeds from the sale of $5.00 Savings Passes. In addition, we will receive a percentage of all purchases. All members are encouraged to attend a NJ Devil’s hockey game on December 19 when they play against the Anaheim Ducks.

Linda and her group will be presenting their Camp Hope Unleased program for Veterans with PTSD and their Service K9s. To that end we will have a panel presentation with representatives from 4 states including a wounded Bergen County Veteran and his service dog.

Sat., 10/10 – Rotary Leadership Institute – 7:30-3:30 – The Courtyard by Marriott, 100 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Montvale. Offering Parts I, II, III and Graduate. Register at www.rlinea.org and click on “Montvale NJ” under “Upcoming Events” in the left hand side-bar. Take advantage of the 2 for 1 arrangement.  If any 2 members from the same club take any Part of the Leadership course and show proof of attendance, the District will be reimburse them for one tuition for every two attending. Those attending Part One will be reimbursed for their full cost if they register before 9/30.

Sat., 11/7 - Rotary Day at the United Nations – SOLD OUT
 
Tues., 11/10 - RI President, K.R.Ravindran will visit our District on Tuesday November 10, 2015. Greet him at a "Celebration of Rotary Service" Party to be held at Season’s, Washington Township, from 6.30 to 10.30. The "Celebration of Rotary Service" will recognize District 7490 Rotarians with over 40 years of Rotary Service including our own Dr. Robert Balentine, Dr. Stuart Gold and Ralph Padovano.
