Make Ups:
Stuart Gold earned make-ups at RLI and 5K Race meetings; Bernie Cohen, Pat DiRosa, and Jan Doornbosch attended to meetings of the 5K Race Committee; Pat and Jan also attended the August Board Meeting.

Birthdays and Anniversaries: Birthdays were celebrated by Pat DiRosa (9/20), Stuart Gold (9/21) and Steve Hopper (9/22). Anniversaries were celebrated by Steve Hopper (9/14) and Pat Dirosa (9/22).Sunshine:
Bob Balentine is resting at the Cape recovering from a fall and is currently under the part-time care of a visiting nurse. Now that he is driving again, we all hope to have Bob back with us very soon.
We are saddened to report the passing of John Zaczek, the father of Nancy Collentine, on Wednesday, September 18. Details will be sent when available.
Ann Kilmartin is in Valley Hospital being treated for kidney stones. We all join in wishing her a speedy recovery.
Mauro Cappitella is currently undergoing chemo treatment. We wish him well and hope to hear good news.
Helen Paul is currently at home recovering from back surgery. Hopefully, she too will be up and about soon.
Nancy Swales was happy to report that son Larry is doing better.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who are currently contending with adversity of one type or another.

Many Happy Dollars were collected in anticipation of a highly successful 5K event on Sunday, 9/22. So far we have 100+ registrants and are well on our way to raising a significant sum of money for scholarships and local charities.
Cindy Rose was happy to announce that we are embarked upon our semi-annual Lord and Taylor fund raiser. Sales passes are available from Cindy and Irma for $5.00 apiece.
Pete Jacobsen was happy for the beautiful memorial service for his father and especially for Joeen Ciannella’s role in remembering Herb.
Jan Doornbosch was happy to have won a sailing race on the Hudson recently.
Fay Logan offered happy dollars in recognition of the hard work done by the 5K Committee .
President Bob was happy to have Park Ridge resident Mike Zielinski and Westwood Rotary Club President with us at the meeting today.

Irma Chazotte and Cindy Rose are again selling sales passes to Lord and Taylor’s sale which will take place Thursday, October 10 at the Ridgewood store in the Fashion Center. The club keeps all proceeds from the sales of tickets plus gets a percentage of the sales of merchandise. Members who sell at least $50.00 worth of savings passes will be entered into a drawing for a nice gift basket from L&T. WE URGE ALL MEMBERS TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SELLING AT LEAST 5 SALES PASSES. This would allow the club to raise at least $1000.00 with a minimum of effort.

Westwood Rotary Club President Susan Thielemann visited the Park Ridge Club on Friday, September 20 to share with members a topic which has become a passion for her and a signature program of the Westwood Club. Since accepting the position of chairperson of the District’s CPR Anytime program in July, she has been been providing training to groups throughout the area on the need to learn CPR so that more lives may be saved.
District Governor Len Agrusti has made CPR training a major goal of his administration during 2013-14, and, to that end, has provided all 55 clubs in the District with American Heart Association materials that will teach the process.
Susan explained that a person’s chances of survival after sudden cardiac arrest can be more than doubled if Hands-on CPR is initiated within minutes of the attack occurring. Quick action will keep the blood flowing until trained medical help arrives.
The American Heart Association recommends taking two simple steps to save a life: If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse, become unresponsive and stop breathing call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of the classic disco song "Stayin' Alive." The sooner this can be started the better since a person’s brain can survive for up to 6 minutes after the heart stops beating.
